I had never heard of Gemma Hayes, and hopped over to Amazon to listen to some clips (http://tinyurl.com/6vvay). It's also on the iTunes music store. I'm old-fashioned and prefer to have a tangible CD - someday I'll catch up with the times and buy iTunes, etc, downloads for entire albums. Definitely buying this CD, though. I get a kick out of the fact that she's Irish, given that it sounds like she has an American southern drawl. Someone in a similar genre is Kasey Chambers - some of the best American/roots music I've heard, but she happens to be Australian. I have a feeling I'll like Gemma Hayes for similar reasons as to why I like Kasey Chambers, Lucinda Williams (self-titled is my favorite), Allison Moorer (she has a great CD/DVD set called "Show" which has, believe it or not, a great Kid Rock cameo), and Shelby Lynne ("I Am Shelby Lynne" is the only one that I have, a mainstream, somewhat AC/popish attempt (vs. country) attempt which is awesome). For those other Gemma Hayes fans out there, what similar artists would you recommend? Again, thanks for mentioning her! It's been a good few months since I started recording this album I know but at last the finishing line is in view. The album itself has been recorded in full with just the mixing left to do...well with just the mixing, artwork, video's etc left to do! Thanks to those who have waited patiently and to those who didn't...please come back!! I have to say I sulked like a kid in the back of the car when I had to leave LA. I never thought I would say that but it turns out LA is a pretty amazing place. Yes they like yolk free omlettes, cow free milk and for some reason lots of cinnamon but I like 'em. Getting back to the album, we managed to record 16 songs in total of which all I'm dead happy with. In the second stage of recording Josh Klingoffer ( sorry Josh I will find out how to spell your name some day) who plays with PJ Harvey came to the studio for a few days and put down some killer guitar. Around the same time we managed to get Zac Rae who at the moment plays with Alanis Morrisette to play some rhodes, many variety of keyboards, bells, whistles etc. The cherry on the cake came in the form of Lisa Germano who dropped in to play violin on a couple of tracks. We had Robert Caranza engineer the second phase of recordings. All these people were bloody great, the whole experience, although a lot of time consuming hard work, was bloody great. We even managed to record in Cello Studio's ( Pet Sounds being just one of many amazing albums recorded there) just before it was closed down. Actually I would love to find out if we were the last session or not. So there you have it, the second album is soon to be placed in the lap of the gods but I gotta say it's wonderful to finish an album at all. For a while there I thought I would never write again. Oh by the way I haven't got a title yet so suggestion's are welcome. Ye will have to hear some tracks of course so I'll set that up with 'a god send' Laura. I think you might like all of them especially Angela Correa since you mentioned also being a fan of Lucinda Williams. She just put out a record last week (probably my favorite of the year). She's also mentioned in the past of being a huge Lisa Germano fan and is apparently trying to convince Lisa of doing with her sometime... http://www.angelacorrea.com/ http://www.myspace.com/correatown Anyway, Gemma is playing unbilled shows every Thursday in Los Angeles at a club called Tangier - coincidentally the same place where Angela had her cd release show last week. Word is Gemma likes L.A. so much she may move here permanently. Lucky us :) Candace - --- "Rob Schiferl, Jr." wrote: > > For those other Gemma Hayes fans out there, what > similar > artists would you recommend? > > Again, thanks for mentioning her! > __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
