I like the Makeout Room, but there's often so much audience noise it's hard to hear the bands very well. That was the case last night. It was just Eleni playing guitar and singing plus a bass player. Eleni was her usual sultry self--imagine Lauren Bacall like she was in "To Have and Have Not" singing really sexy songs. I wanted to call her style "slow rockabilly" but couldn't get anyone to agree. Anyway, it's good, whatever it is. My band ended up following her. I talked to her a little after we finished, told her I liked her set, especially now that I have her "Afternoon" album and can figure out the words, and that I'm envious she toured with Lisa. She thanked me, said she liked my band too (I might dismiss that as politeness except we did get her dancing, so she must have liked us some), that Lisa is great. She did not seem inclined to have a long conversation, and I couldn't think of anything very intelligent to say anyway, so that was it... - --Tom Lucas In a message dated 9/28/2004 4:55:51 PM Pacific Daylight Time, Concorder@aol.com writes: no, they toured together. and i guess beyond that, they're also friends (that's what lisa said at a show of theirs earlier this year). i like eleni mandell a lot. let us know how the gig goes. - ------- The Ectophile's Guide to Good Music: http://www.smoe.org/ectoguide/ - ------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with the message: unsubscribe sycophant If you gave an infinite number of monkeys an infinite number of computers, they would all get AOL accounts and send unsub messages to the list address.
