Myles already provided an excellent report on the concert. the 100 Club isn't really a jazz club, they're quite eclectic, but I must admit the walls are dominated by posters of jazz musicians. I met a guy from South Africa who went to the concert to experience the club, not the artists :-). evidently, two of his favourite bands, Joy Division and something else (Smiths?) had formed due to their members meeting each other at a Sex Pistols concert there. punk was practically born in that club, so it's quite legendary. one interesting thing was that she played All The Pretty Lies in the middle of From A Shell (I may be mistaken -- I did buy the album only three hours prior to the concert). it blended in very well, I didn't realise it happening. also, she had John Doe and Ed Harcourt (piano) come on stage and help out on, hmm, I think it was Pearls. great show, pity it was so short. I blame this on silly London laws requiring pubs to close at 23. the schedule was schedule reality event --------------------------------------- 1930 1930 doors open 2045 2050 Lisa .. 2140 Lisa goes off-stage 2145 2145 John Doe .. 2250 John Doe goes off-stage 2300 2300 club closes so you see, it all went according to plan. this is very different from what I'm used to. in Oslo, the band typically _enters_ at 23. sometimes, especially during weekends, they don't enter until midnight or later. e.g., at a recent concert, Aphex Twin entered at 0115, and then played for three hours... (his "support", Satans Tornade, entered at 2330.) anyway, I got my CD autographed, yay! Lisa commented that she much preferred the US digipak artwork (which was what I brought) over the British jewel case. I couldn't think of any earth-shattering insights to offer or ask for, and a line was forming behind me (at least a dozen people), so I thanked her and left. - -- Kjetil T. | read and make up your own mind | http://www.cactus48.com/truth.html - ------- The Ectophile's Guide to Good Music: http://www.smoe.org/ectoguide/ - ------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with the message: unsubscribe sycophant If you gave an infinite number of monkeys an infinite number of computers, they would all get AOL accounts and send unsub messages to the list address.
