Hmmm. I, for one, am getting tired of hearing how Lisa's albums are all about bitterness, despair, and loneliness. I mean, there's a lot of that, of course, but what about humor*, hope, irony, sex, love, anger, nostalgia, disillusionment, reflection and commentary on social mores and values, philosophy, forgiveness, and, of course, happiness**...I could go on and on. I think lazy reviewers do her a great disservice by simply sticking in the "mopey" category. Now, I haven't heard "Lullaby for Liquid Pig" yet (I won't buy promo copies on ebay, I'd rather Lisa get the money) but I have a feeling it's at least as complex as her other albums. - --Tom Lucas * Ran into a friend of mine the other day & found out he's way into Lisa, too. One of the things he said was how funny a lot of her stuff is. It was great to hear him say that, I thought I was the only one who heard that! ** "Happiness is just around the corner from forgiveness" - ------- The Ectophile's Guide to Good Music: http://www.smoe.org/ectoguide/ - ------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with the message: unsubscribe sycophant If you gave an infinite number of monkeys an infinite number of computers, they would all get AOL accounts and send unsub messages to the list address. Hey now, the loneliness and despair is the reason I LIKE her albums. And it's not like it's not a predominant theme on all her stuff. - ----- Original Message ----- From: To: Sent: Friday, April 11, 2003 1:22 PM Subject: Re: I: sycophant Interesting Liquid Pig review... > Hmmm. I'm just saying that by itself it's a very narrow view. If listeners want to limit themselves that way that's fine; but it's irresponsible for critics to do so. - --Tom Lucas - ------- The Ectophile's Guide to Good Music: http://www.smoe.org/ectoguide/ - ------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with the message: unsubscribe sycophant If you gave an infinite number of monkeys an infinite number of computers, they would all get AOL accounts and send unsub messages to the list address. I've hated stuff they've loved and vice versa. With MP3's it's easy enough to just download something and decide for yourself. - ----- Original Message ----- From: To: Sent: Friday, April 11, 2003 2:14 PM Subject: sycophant Lon > Sure, there's plenty of loneliness & despair in Lisa's music, and I like that > aspect as much as anyone. Just what I have been thinking - ! Irony is what I first think of, not bitterness. Very few artists can express so many feelings. And few artists has made me so happy (especially playing Happiness real LOUD, only problem it is far too short . . .) You said it all, I'll say no more.
