The version with the cover photo, (which I like alot). As for the reviewers, as someone else on this list mentioned, maybe it has something to do with that this is not a good starting place for someone just getting into Lisa's music. I've listened to the CD only twice so far, and it has struck me as a bit dull. Of course once the songs become more familiar, that will most likely change. - --- bilbo hicks wrote: > I have not heard the new record yet. But it's safe > to > say those reviews are wrong. I don't think I'd dare review one of her albums until I'd had it for a year or so! (Not a very realistic timetable for a reviewer I know). And I think the later albums are less "accessible" than the early ones. I've had "Rare, Unusual or Just Bad" songs for months and am just starting to realize how good it is. I was listening to "Angels Turn To Devils" and it just blew me away...the way it kind of goes off in a different direction than a lot of Lisa's stuff. Let's not rush to judgement on "Lullaby". - --Tom Lucas - ------- The Ectophile's Guide to Good Music: http://www.smoe.org/ectoguide/ - ------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with the message: unsubscribe sycophant If you gave an infinite number of monkeys an infinite number of computers, they would all get AOL accounts and send unsub messages to the list address. I really love the soft imtimacy of the songs but wanted to share another perspective. I'm the big Lisa fan in my house, my boyfriend thinks she's very good but wouldn't necessarily put one of her CDs on. When I played the CD version of "From a Shell" (which is easily my initial favorite from Lullaby, I played it over and over again for DAYS) for him he said "This is it, she's going to blow up with this CD." My boyfriend is really into music and to hear this from him meant that it impressed him like nothing else she'd ever done has. I guess it all comes down to perspective, something that's been said on this list a thousand times or more. I agree with Tom that Lisa's music (all art, really) changes for you with the passing of time and the garnering of more life experience. But I can't wait to get my copy and play it to death! I like the cover - it seems very spooky to me. Is anyone from the list going to be able to make her CD release at Largo next month? I have class that night but am going to attempt to get out of it. It would be fun to connect with someone from the list sometime. Kind Regards, Christe Yahoo! Reviewing albums by listening to them in the car? Please. I suspect the reviewer listened to the album only once. I have no problem with people disliking Lisa's music. It's certainly not for everyone. What I have a problem with is a reviewer saying that music "should get your blood flowing and your feet moving". This implies that if music doesn't "rock" or isn't something you'd dance to, then it's not valid. Candace, you made a good point about the audience for which it was written. I must say this info really shocked me: | Q How much did your other records sell? | | A Not very much. The first one sold 30,000 because it was on | Capitol. Then the others kept decreasing. around 10-20,000. | Slide sold 6,000. that is just so sad! it actually makes me mad! it's probably just the US numbers, but worldwide sales wouldn't contribute _that_ much.
