I've never really used WinAmp before. Wow - there are a lot of cool plugins. Thanks, Bradley, for the off list help during my learning curve. This sent me on a search for software with similar capabilities. Here are two cool finds: Realaudio-to-Wav Recorder: this cool little gem records most RealAudio streams with very little effort and automatically converts them to wav files. Very easy to use: just paste in the web address and hit enter :) Note that under "Option" you need to select play or record. What I like about this is that it allows you to listen to the stream as you are recording, and will also accommodate live streams. I use it at work if I have an appt. but want to catch the end of a program on National Public Radio (NPR). It can be found at http://rawavrecorder.homestead.com/ Not sure how to find the address for the stream? Just right-click on the link and choose "copy shortcut" - then you can paste it in where needed. Streambox!VCR: I had this program once upon a time before it was outlawed in the US. (Real sued the programmer.) Changed computers and haven't had it for years. I had a devil of a time finding it again - could only remember that "VCR" was in the name. It appears a bit complicated to setup nowadays. What I remember being great about it is that you can record an archive (such as the Lisa concert Bradley mentioned) into a real audio file without converting it. Realaudio files take up MUCH less space than wav files, so this is helpful if you just want something saved to your computer for convenience. If you want to convert it, just run it through winamp with the Tara Varshney plugin installed, as Bradley explained. (You can find the Tara Varshney plugin by doing a web search if you can't find it on the winamp page.) Another great feature is that you can partially record an archived stream, disconnect from the internet, and when you reconnect hours or days later just pick up where you left off. You cannot hear audio while you are recording, however. This can be downloaded from http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_tools/streambox_vcr.cfm Keep in mind that the software is banned in the US, according to this website. Where to find cool streamed archives: There are some Lisa performances (and other worthy musicians) on the KCRW Morning Becomes Eclectic website at http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_tools/streambox_vcr.cfm You can search for your favorite artist and listen to some shows. House of Blues has a cool program called The Green Room where musicians play some of their own new music and also play music that they like a great deal. Just listened to Beth Orton's show - interesting to hear her favorites. http://www.hob.com/artistfeatures/greenroom/ Does anyone else know where there are cool streaming Lisa concerts or other cool sites with streaming concerts? - ------- The Ectophile's Guide to Good Music: http://www.smoe.org/ectoguide/ - ------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with the message: unsubscribe sycophant If you gave an infinite number of monkeys an infinite number of computers, they would all get AOL accounts and send unsub messages to the list address.
