This record is produced by Mitchell Froom and Tchad Blake. Eleven songs for a little more than 30 minutes and it's no hardcore. And there are two duets with Brett Anderson from Suede and that's the real surprise. I quite don't understand what has Stina to do with that guy. The music is pretty minimalist for her, no strings, no reeds and the lyrics are less ambivalent, more clear than before. I have to listen to this record a bit more to get an opinion (sorry for my strange english). Anyway I can advice you (advise ?) to listen to the one before "People are strange" on East West which is a cover album with songs of Leonard Cohen, Prince, Tim Hardin, The Doors and so on. You may compare this record with the one from Catpower except Stina's less "naked", but poignant either, a bit more maybe. And for me it's the best cover album since "Kicking against the pricks" by Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds in 1985, I think. And the booklet is beautiful. I would like to see the same for the next Lisa album. We shall see. The new Stina album is a related topic since she used the same producers of Lisa's last album. And lets face it, until Lisa puts out a new record, there is little to discuss on this list. Thank you for keeping the list alive Christian! And it is advise (advise is the verb, advice is the noun). Your English is better than my French! Here's a thought - if you are sending a message out that is Lisa oriented, why not add a little note at the end about other artists that Lisa fans might like? - ------- The Ectophile's Guide to Good Music: http://www.smoe.org/ectoguide/ - ------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with the message: unsubscribe sycophant If you gave an infinite number of monkeys an infinite number of computers, they would all get AOL accounts and send unsub messages to the list address. Listening to Stina only nourishes my longing for Lisa. btw. "And She Closed Her Eyes" is def. the best of hers. On "People Are Strange" she seems already a bit mannered to me... though the CD cover *is* wonderful.... :-) Daniel - ----- Original Message ----- From: "Rob Schiferl, Jr." To: Sent: Wednesday, December 05, 2001 4:21 PM Subject: Re: sycophant Re: This is Stina Nordenstam > I rather enjoyed our Belgium friends musings, though it > could have tied in a bit more with Lisa.
