There was artwork and all. It was supposed to be just for fans. In fact... mainly for us at the list. It would just take a simple CD copy, nothing special, I think. The tribute had some people submiting their versions of Lisa's songs. There was a guy in charge (Reid). He received some songs, but then he vanished (quite a surprise, he was very active in the list. Nobody ever knew what happened). Then, one other guy (Joe Horne) took over the project, but only received 3 songs. Some people got really sad over all this and left the list. Anyway... the Lisa Tribute page (http://www.apocalypse.org/~friday/psz/germano/) has all the e-mails from the possible submitters, so... if someone has the capability to gather all the submissions and turn them into a decent CD, you could offer to try to e-mail the old people and new people and try to gather all the stuff. - ------- The Ectophile's Guide to Good Music: http://www.smoe.org/ectoguide/ - ------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with the message: unsubscribe sycophant If you gave an infinite number of monkeys an infinite number of computers, they would all get AOL accounts and send unsub messages to the list address. A friend of mine had also sent a track to him, but never heard back or anything. I don't even know if Miles Davis is still on this list, but I think he was the last person who had everyone's submissions and did nothing with them. Too bad, I'm sure that Lisa would have appreciated this love fest in her honor. Bests to all, Pam on 7/17/01 11:49 AM, Pedro Borges at Pedro.borges@rtp.pt wrote: > Yeah, the tribute was on its way. My name is Judith Beeman and I'm new to this group, having joined just in time for a few weeks of silence. As a very new fan of Lisa's music the thought of hearing other people perform her songs sounds very exciting. What a shame the original project fell through and how upsetting to the contributers! Basically, at the moment I have that pulsating fervor that comes with having "discovered" an artist whose work you really enjoy. Lisa's music is also quite disturbing (well, those are the pictures my mind paints) so this only adds to the scenario. I'm still getting to know many of the songs, and haven't heard her first release. Anyhow, long story short, I have published a print magazine BACK OF A CAR (known as BOAC) for some years. It became to pay homage to Memphis music and, in particular, Big Star. I've now moved on to other subjects; most recent issue being "memories of being a teen in the late 70's". BOAC has released two compilation cd's. I would be quite willing to help compile and release a Lisa Germano tribute cd. However, I would like to know, before getting into it, that Lisa herself had no objections to this. The mechanical license (royalties) would be paid for the songs covered (BOAC has done this before for cover songs). I would get involved with this only if at least one other person -- Dan perhaps? oh yes, I could find use for a *cabin boy* -- would be involved with the organizational aspects. I'm throwing this information out to see what sort of reply or interest in reviving the project. If there is enough interest or more can be drummed up, I'd really like to be involved. Does anyone know if people outside of the Sycophant group were approached to contribute in the first place?
