(bit lo-fi meets Syd Barrett with really weird little noises -they are on a belgian label) and Solex (thin female voice on samplings from very bad records, for the first album; from live concert with a dat recorder for the second one). Hollanders are more convincing in the jazz area with people like Han Bennink, a really crazy drummer, Ab Baars, Wolter Wierbos or Ernst Reiseger. They all played with an anarcho-punk bandcalled The Ex. This band recorded with Tortoise, Sonic Youth and Steve Albini. I know I don't talk about our beloved Lisa, but believe me, I have her in my mind everytime I write something on the list. Jacques Brel was a belgian singer whom Frenchmen have stolen to made him the biggest chanteur français on earth at the same level as Edith Piaf. Jacques Brel is dead now for more than fifteen years (I can't remember the exact year, shame on me). David Bowie covered Port of Amsterdam, Scott Walker was a real fan of him and Marc Almond made an album with only Jacques Brel's songs. About Stina Nordenstam, for me she is some sort of a bad tempered little Lisa's sister. I even send a self-made compilation of Stina's songs to Lisa. So maybe she knows about her now. Her last album, People are Strange (which is a cover album with songs from Prince, Leonard Cohen, The Doors), is really beautiful, a bit experimental and the songs are almost 'unrecognizable'. Did someone listen to the last Catpower? Very good too. Stina's one is in the same spirit, only less naked, with weird strings arrangements. Do you know Joey Burn, from Giant Sand, Calexico and OP8, said he would like to work with Chan Marshall (from Catpower if you're following)? She is also, but a more well-tempered, little sister of Lisa Germano. From Stina Nordenstam, everybody has to try "And She Closed her Eyes" and the frightening "Dynamite". This last one can be compared with Lisa's Geek The Girl, not for the Lyrics but for the same kind of desperate dryness. The label is Island. But I think it's a bit difficult to find it in the US. But try anyway. Of course, that mini album doesn't have the same theatrality as Uncle Meat. In a way "My Sister=My Clock" is more accessible, even if some belgians said that record was pretentious. After the smash hit (here in Belgium) of the first album "Worst Case Scenario", with the unbelievable single "Hotellounge (be the death of me)", they made the mini-album as a kind of statement, a bit like Grandaddy made with their false second album. But dEUS made it real, and with a fantastic artwork. The guitarist of that time (his name is Rudi Trouve, he is running several bands at the same time now: Kiss My Jazz, Dead Man Ray, Gore Slut, Lionel Horowitz and his Combo), so Rudi Trouve is also a succesful painter. The three first dEUS' albums are showing pictures of him, as the three Kiss My Jazz' and the two Gore Slut's. As you can see, there are some little things to listen to and to look at with those fellows.
