["Christian Boyon" Subject: re: sycophant Oh no, not Lisa Gerrard!!! Hi, I don't get my own computer and it isn't always possible for me to write on the net, so I hope you will excuse me for my irregular answers. I would like to say your answers on my mail are far above what I was expecting. Even if I get only 5 or 6 answers for a sycophants list which is containing more than one hundred members, none of them were offensive, on the contrary. I can imagine some people on the list thought what pretentious that Belgian is for talking about Hildegard Von Bingen (who is well appreciated among yuppies-new agers too) and worst about Albert Ayler whom noone knows about or if yes one find him completely unlistenable 'cause he couldn't play the saxophone (things one said about Ornette Coleman too, but Ayler he never swang -do you say that: to swing, swang, swung?) and quoted too often bad music like The Marseillaise and other hymns. I'm very please to get that kind of message and it's absolutely true we have to thank, in a way, artists like Lisa Gerrard or Led Zeppelin for taking us further without becoming a purist's purist. Captain Beefheart played that role for me. And Nick Cave before. From Nick Cave to Captain Beefheart. And from Captain Beefheart to on this side Howlin' Wolf (more than through Tom Waits), on the other side Ornette, Ayler, Eric Dolphy and John Zorn. I'm still in jazz and I dig European improvised music since then : Derek Bailey, Evan Parker, Misha Mengelberg, Mats Gustafsson,... and some Chicagoans like Ken Vandermark, for example. But I'm not sure everybody on this list gonna follow me in this kind of music, even if I read someone, I don't remember who, sorry, who digs Diamanda Galas. From Lisa Germano to Diamanda, that's a step and that's good. On the other way, I expected the Lisa Germano's fans were intelligent people with an open mind, sensitive and reliable, a bit like Lisa is, I think, even if I don't know her privately. She looks like that. So, the first text I wrote as an answer to your answers was far beter than this one and more to the point (I lost it in a ridiculous way: the connection to the net isn't that good here), but I hope I'm clear enough and not too boring. bye Christian ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com - ------- The Ectophile's Guide to Good Music: http://www.smoe.org/ectoguide/ - ------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with the message: unsubscribe sycophant If you gave an infinite number of monkeys an infinite number of computers, they would all get AOL accounts and send unsub messages to the list address. It's a delightful and fun rendition of "Guessing Game." It had me, the moose, the bear and my homie dancing around last night. The artist is Jonathan Rundman and his track will be the first on the CD. Now don't forget your contribution!
