Wow, that makes so much sense! When I first heard the 4AD version, that's exactly what I thought--that she didn't like the song anymore. But I didn't think that could be right--why would she re-record it then? Maybe she felt so differently about it (and, no doubt, the relationship that inspired the song in the first place) that she couldn't bear to re-release the thing and tried to salvage it by slapping on a layer of irony? And by further distancing herself from it by re-titling it? But it didn't quite work, she still hates it! - --Tom Lucas - ------- The Ectophile's Guide to Good Music: http://www.smoe.org/ectoguide/ - ------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with the message: unsubscribe sycophant If you gave an infinite number of monkeys an infinite number of computers, they would all get AOL accounts and send unsub messages to the list address. I wonder if that's the same show I saw. :) I saw her a couple of years ago at the Bottom of the Hill (I missed her most recent tour) and she did that. The best part was that halfway through the song, she started making faces and changing some of the words, like singing "I don't really like this song" and stuff, before just stopping completely... Her poor bass player was caught by surprise. That was the only time I saw Lisa play live but it made me regret not seeing her more often. It was the first time I heard the alcoholic song and I fell in love immediately. :) (I can't wait to hear the Love Execution Style cover -- how's that coming along, Reid?) robey - -- Robey Pointer | I'm not clever enough for a sig. robey@lag.net | http://www.lag.net/~robey - ------- The Ectophile's Guide to Good Music: http://www.smoe.org/ectoguide/ - ------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with the message: unsubscribe sycophant If you gave an infinite number of monkeys an infinite number of computers, they would all get AOL accounts and send unsub messages to the list address.
