Farace, Jr." Subject: Re: sycophant Re: format of recording Actually, what I meant by originally bringing up the question (and admittedly wasn't at all clear about) was that whoever is accepting the submissions should specify what they can handle. No sense in sending in a DAT or MiniDisk or whatever if there's no way to access it. Also, before making plans for actually *selling* this thing, look into the type of royalties referred to as "mechanicals." I believe that when you cover someone's song and put it out for sale, the owner of the publishing rights (hopefully Ms Germano, but the way the industry works, who knows) gets a specific amount (like 5 cents per song per copy) rather than a percentage of the net proceeds. If there are twelve of her songs on a CD then, there's an added cost of 60 cents per disk. Not a lot, until you multiply that by 1000 disks. Just something to consider if this is going to be more than just a within-the-list sort of thing. Of course, I'm far from being an expert on this, so please look it up. > > Well, its not like this is a Capitol records release. These days, it's pretty trivial to record a tape into your computer and get a sound file of it, which is just one step away from being a CD imprint. I'm 100% sure Reid can do this. :) I personally like tapes because you can get lots of "natural" noises and stuff, where the songs sound kinda friendly instead of sterile. I'd be recording our track onto tape, but my 4-track annoys me most of the time by having only 4 tracks. Semi on-topic, Ms. Germano's songs always sound earthy instead of sterile to me, too, so if she did everything digitally, she did a really good job of getting a nice analog sound out.
