Hiya: Actually, if you want a good cross-section of His Name is Alive's work, you should pick up a copy of their recent compilation from 4AD, "Always Stay Sweet." It contains tracks mostly from their early work but there is some stuff from "Stars on ESP." It's also nicely priced at around $11.98 but you might be able to find a used copy for cheaper. HNIA is a group from Livonia, Michigan, fronted by Warren Defever. Actually, Warren does a lot of the music himself. The early HNIA material sounds spooky and gothic, not unlike This Mortal Coil stuff (in fact, the TMC boxed set is dedicated by Ivo to Warren) but "Stars on ESP" and the latest, "Ft. Lake", are influenced by Phil Spector, Aretha Franklin, and the Beach Boys more than anything. Exactly...I think it's better to take a song and make it YOURS...do something different with it rather than a strictly faithful cover. My friends and I just finished a cover of Throwing Muses' "Counting Backwards" for a similar fan tribute project. I had NO idea whatsoever what to do with this song when we first did it, and it wound up sounding like an electronica/techno rendition of the song. Now, that's not my favorite kind of music by any means, it just sorta happened that way. :-) We were pretty pleased with the result in that the song definitely was "Counting Backwards" but it was OUR rendition of it. I'm not so sure I will be able to do much more different with Lisa's songs, though. I won't know until I am standing behind the microphone or until we start mixing anything. The guys always have ideas so I'm leaving it up to them. Oh, and we're also grabbing "Cancer of Everything." ;-) I think we can have some real fun with that song. :-) - -- Stealth - ------- The Ectophile's Guide to Good Music: http://www.smoe.org/ectoguide/ - ------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with the message: unsubscribe sycophant If you gave an infinite number of monkeys an infinite number of computers, they would all get AOL accounts and send unsub messages to the list address.
