I cannot stop listening to that album, even though I cannot even begin to pretend to understand in the least bit what any of it is about. At least with Lisa you had some clue. So I would have to second that. Just to seem like I'm original though: at the same time I fell in love with N.M.H. I also started to listen to Wilco and Billy Bragg's album of unreleased Woody Guthrie songs, and it's pretty damn amazing too. Of course now I cannot remember the name of the album itself. Mermaid Avenue? Rainbow Avenue? Something like that. Sorry. Also Tom Waits's newest, _Mule Variations_, sort of sums up everything he's been doing for the past twenty years or so and is also brilliant in its own right. I cannot say enough good things about that man. What do you say to a line like "And I don't have a drinking problem, except when I can't get a drink?" except I love you, and I want to have your babies? Or you could just buy the album I suppose. In fact, go do it: buy _Small Change_ and then buy _Rain Dogs_ and then of course buy _Heart Attack and Vine_, which has the original version of "Jersey Girl" and not the silly words Springsteen added (all right, fine, I love Bruce Springsteen and own everything the man's put out there for public consumption but I still don't understand why he did that. Hmmm: classic Tom Waits song. I know! Let's add more words! What about that seems like a good idea? Oh, well: it was the Eighties...and we all made a bad decision or two, like voting for Reagan and buying Human League records) All right, back to Lisa! Three favorites off Slide: Way Below the Radio Woodfloors Crash or Reptile But who am I kidding? More to the point, who are we kidding? Asking me to choose my three favorite songs of this album is like asking me to choose which three fingers I like best and which seven I could live without (and yes I know there are _eleven_ songs on the album; it was an imperfect simile, cut me some damn slack). But there it is.
