When JM did his 4th of July fan appreciation show for ABC in '92, she was on-air a lot. This was a 2-hr show, too. Now...here is a comment from someone when I mentioned LG (he is in the music biz): ******************* **I saw , well, briefly spoke to and then VERY briefly saw Lisa Germano open up for The Eels a couple of months ago here in Philly. I talked to her briefly before she went on. Most of the conversation went like this :Fuck the record companies.....fuck the world...fuck me...fuck you"...real nice talk we had. She then took the stage, played for about 30 seconds, said "I'm sorry...but this is fucked" and walked off...not to be seen again. Either this girl 1) Likes to fuck 2) Had a bad attitude 3) Was really upset at someone I don't know.....but she sure did not give the patrons their monies worth. My apologies for all of the 4 letter words used in the previous paragraph...I was only being real. ********************** And that's all... - -----Original Message----- From: owner-sycophant@smoe.org [mailto:owner-sycophant@smoe.org]On Behalf Of deanorez@juno.com Sent: Friday, April 16, 1999 2:54 PM To: sycophant@smoe.org Subject: sycophant Conan O'Brien Lisa played violin with The Latin Playboys last night (4/15) on Late Night w/Conan O'Brien. There's also the fact that she gets really stressed when she plays shows. Speaking as someone else vaguely affiliated with "the music biz," I had the opportunity to interview her late last year and she was undoubtedly the coolest person I've ever interviewed. She offered to buy me coffee, and after the interview was over we hung out for another half hour or so talking about music. She seemed like a really genuine person, and asked me questions about where I was living, what my plans for my life were, and what I liked to listen to -- she even wrote down the names of a couple of Irish bands I recommended to her in her notebook. Then when I saw her play at the Largo a month or two later she came over to me at the bar just to say "hi." I don't know what was up with your friend, but from where I stand Lisa's not only a great songwriter but also a damn cool person. --Matt J On Fri, 16 Apr 1999, Tobolski, Marc wrote: > Now...here is a comment from someone when I mentioned LG (he is in the music > biz): > > ******************* > > **I saw , well, briefly spoke to and then VERY > briefly saw Lisa Germano open up for The Eels a > couple of months ago here in Philly. I saw Lisa and the Playboys in Dallas last weekend and she only played 8 songs I think. Her set was only a half hour long. After the house lights came up and people were setting up for the Playboys, she helped along. My boyfriend and I got to talk to her for a little bit and I believe her to be the most humble and kind of any other "famous" musicians I've ever met. She took our praise and thanks w/ a big smile and lots of "thank you"s. During her set she messed up on a new song she had been working on and apologized for the mistake. I don't know many who do that. Either they say "fuck it" or just go on to another song. My boyfriend had asked her about 4AD and she didn't say too much that I could hear, but I did hear her say that they are very nice people there and it's a shame she can't be working w/ them any more. I was disappointed in how short her set was, but seeing her be so happy on stage w/ the Latin Playboys made up for it. She looked like she was having a great time and even mentioned how much fun it has been. Oh for those of you who have complained about audiences - I guess you guys were right about how annoying they have been b/c near the first thing Lisa said when I talked to her was about how "great the audience is tonight!" take care Jennifer > > > Thanks in advance, > > Tom > nystrom@math.nwu.edu > > ------- > The Ectophile's Guide to Good Music: http://www.smoe.org/ectoguide/ > ------- > To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with the message: > unsubscribe sycophant > > If you gave an infinite number of monkeys an infinite number of computers, > they would all get AOL accounts and send unsub messages to the list > address. I beleive she played 'puppet'. Anyway i just want to say that I just saw her tonight in boston at the Paradise and it was a great show. It was short but she played with a passion i hadn't seen in a while. I got to talk with her for a few minutes and she was the nicest person i have ever met. She was having a great time performing. I have never seen her so happy. I have seen her a few times and this was the best even if it was the shortest. The world stopped when she played 'Wood Floors'. And it can rain all day! _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
