OP8 is a music project conducted by members of Giant Sand/Calexico (did i spell it correctly?), with Lisa "guest-performing". They released the album Slush in 97 (i think it was 97). I haven´t heard the album, so i´m sure there are other people out there who could tell you more. But while we´re on the subject : I´ve seen the track-list from Slush, and it´s got a couple of songs from Slide - are these the same ones (except that they´re done by different people of course)? - - S Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com - ------- The Ectophile's Guide to Good Music: http://www.smoe.org/ectoguide/ - ------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with the message: unsubscribe sycophant If you gave an infinite number of monkeys an infinite number of computers, they would all get AOL accounts and send unsub messages to the list address. (apart from Lisa Germano) here's some of the music I like: Trans Am Stereolab Björk Boards of Canada Belle and Sebastian Sonic Youth Aphex Twin Pj Harvey Beck Germinating Seeds of Doda Saafi Brothers Ltj Bukem The last three on the list + Aphex Twin and Boards of Canada make beautiful electronic music, I can also suggest the soundtrack to the film "Lucky People Centre International" (the music as well as the film, wich is brilliant). As for the comments on techno-music, I totally agree that lots of the stuff on the track-lists is pretty crappy, but it does in no way represent the variety, skill, inventiveness and whatever else I find in lots of experimental techno music. And what's so bad about mechanics and repetitiveness? As far as I'm concerned, all music is in some way repetitive. Electronic dance-music makes me think of certain kinds of tribal music, where rythm is most important, especially really fast drums, and sounds on very low, and very high frequencies (easily achieved also with "primitive" instruments), to allow for a trance. There's lots and lots to explore in the electronic music-genre!
