Korke" Subject: sycophant Slide - is Lisa getting any better? Well, I finally purchased SLIDE. Took me a while, I know, but well, demands on my money and time have been extreme of late, as I am restoring a Jaguar. That aspect of things is probably a little off topic; I just think it's rather cool. Anyways, as the list has been relatively quiet lately I thought it wouldn't be amiss to send my regards to you all and share my impressions of the latest album. So, regards to you all! I hope everyone is having a delightful October, and take this opportunity to wish you all a pleasant Hallowe'en. Now I remember when Slide was released being a little surprised that there was so little discussion of it here on the list. It seemed a little odd, but now I think I have figured it out. It's because Slide is, well, not all that good. At least I suspect that that's the reason. I got Lisa's albums in roughly this order: Geek the Girl, Happiness, On the Way Down from the Moon Palace, Excerpts from a Love Circus, Slide. Geek the Girl I thought was great, and was stunned to find that Happiness was, if anything, even better, though somewhat more raw. The second half, at least, of OTWDFTMP may have been better still; at any rate, it was as good. And I think Excerpts is probably her best album. So I guess I've been carrying around this impression that Lisa keeps getting better with each album, though it's based on a sort of skewed timeframe. And then there's Slide. I don't hate it. I really don't. But I don't quite LOVE it either. For a Lisa Germano album, it's kinda missing something, although it does have the best picture of her I've seen on any of her album jackets (or whatever you call those things now they're not wrapped around vinyl any more). Am I crazy? It did take me a while to fall in love with Excerpts, so that could happen with Slide too. But somehow it just feels like it has a little less Lisaness about it. It doesn't feel like she's getting BETTER. Oh well. I guess I didn't go into much detail about Slide just now but there you go. I hope you don't all hate me for saying it.
