The tour runs from Aug. 19 through Sept. 2, and features Indigo Girls, Luscious Jackson's Kate Schellenbach, Gail Ann Dorsey, Jane Siberry, Lourdes Perez, Lisa Germano, Mecca Normal's Jean Smith, Come's Thalia Zedek, and Josephine Wiggs, formerly of the Breeders. (allstar, July 10). Shonen Knife -- technically the opening act -- is the only act on the bill who will perform their own set; the others will all jam with one another in a revolving- girl jam session. The Japanese group is also slated to tape a segment on Comedy Central's Viva Variety on Aug. 18. An air date has not been set yet. And, after the Suffragette tour, the girls will embark on a headlining club tour with Michael Shelley. The band's latest album is Happy Hour (Big Deal, June 23) and their current single is their cover of the Monkees' "Daydream Believer," for which an animated video has been created. The reason i got into Lisa in the first place was because of her songs on the 'Falling from Grace' cd. 'Little Children' blew me away. I bought mellencamps last album and was sort of shocked to hear an instrumental by Lisa's replacement. I guess he missed Lisa's contributions. Also, his album came out the same day as 'Love Circus'. Coincidence? But anyway i like all of mellencamps stuff. My favorite album is probably 'Big Daddy' because its the darkest. 4 more days til 'Slide'... _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!? I'll keep an eye out for copies and get them as I have been getting "Happiness", and save them to provide those on the list with copies. MOst of the people that I really share musical tastes with can't stand him, but he's one of the first musicians I ever got into when I got into music fifteen years ago (more or less). I don't listen to much of that style of music anymore but I still enjoy it. I know I like most of the songs I've heard, which is only the stuff that's been played on the radio. I loved that song Wild Night, but I know that was a cover song, from um...Van Morrison? I think? And of coarse there's Jack and Diane, and all that stuff. I guess you could say I like him, but not enough to buy anything by him. And, I just want to say I LOVE Suzanne Vega. Have you ever heard Kristen Hersh? She reminds me a bit of Lisa Germano.-Katie - ------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with the message: unsubscribe sycophant ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 17 Jul 1998 14:46:29 PDT From: "Miss Taci" Subject: sycophant Content-Type: text/plain ~....out of the proverbial woodwork....~ Kristin Hersh, formerly of the Throwing Muses...~smile~ Her voice is so quaint and full of imagery...and her music is pure magic. I decided to check out Lisa on my own, just because Ivo Watts-Russell (from 4AD) seems to like a lot of the stuff I like, and my friend Miguel happened to own a copy of _Geek the Girl_ and I loved it so I went out and bought the rest of her stuff. I listen mostly to folky/gothy/poppy stuff, but then again I also love techno, noise, industrial, classical, traditional Irish, etc. etc. And I see what you mean about corporate radio, which is one of many reasons why I work for public radio (that and I can tape stuff that the station has that I can't find in stores). --Matt J On Fri, 17 Jul 1998 Venmlegion@aol.com wrote: > Well Matt first offf you have to realize that most people have a VERY closed > mind when it comes to music, so they only listen to a certain style. Lisa's been doing her thing longer though--at least in terms of dark folky stuff (Kristen Hersh is also the front-woman for Throwing Muses, which sound not very much like her solo stuff except for the voice is the same). --Matt J - ------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with the message: unsubscribe sycophant ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 17 Jul 1998 23:33:47 -0400 From: Mark Subject: sycophant TOP THREE...
