Her legacy as a backup musician is long and varied. This shouldn't be considered anything more than an opportunity to make $$ (forget your delusions of "artiste", musicians have a JOB to do) and to gain additional exposure. How long has her solo career lasted to date? If we figure from post-JM, it has been approximately 6 years. She was w/JM for at least that long. Not to mention not fronting her own band prior to that. She also appears on the Simple Minds live album and numerous others. This is only some sort of a "defeat" if you choose it to be. This is a chance to be a featured(?), or at least a conspicuous performer in one of the biggest tours for the summer. - -----Original Message----- From: Talulah Gosh [SMTP:emsst35+@pitt.edu] Sent: Friday, May 01, 1998 5:27 AM To: sycophant@smoe.org Subject: Re: Re: sycophant Touring with Pumpkins!! Wait, she's going to be their back-up musician?! Meaning she's just playing their music. Great. Now my dreams have been crushed. Emily "I want to know God's thoughts...the rest are details." I've seen Lisa play with Mellencamp a few times but that was different, she was part of that band for a few years AND not to mention his music's great. The pumpkins hahaha. Even HER presence won't be able to make a difference. I've already seen her on her own several times so I can wait till she tours for her next album. For those of you who haven't, I guess it depends on what you think about the pumpkins. Oh well, I just hope SHE'S happy, that's what's important. As far as her working in a book store in LA, I tend not to believe that rumor, as far as I know she still lives in Indiana. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 1 May 1998 10:52:13 -0700 From: Marc Tobolski Subject: RE: sycophant Then reality set in... Opinions on musical styles are very personal. Through our eyes (and ears) we think Lisa is great. But why don't others? As far as the SP's; they are OK, but they sell a shitload of albums and concert tickets. They didn't sign her own for add'l box office drawing power, believe me. The bigger question as far as touring goes, is why wasn't LG invited to tour with Lilith Fair this summer? Other noticeable exclusion from that tour is Jann Arden. No matter what individual opinions are about particular bands or musical styles, you can't deny what is being purchased in the marketplace. - -----Original Message----- From: Venmlegion [SMTP:Venmlegion@aol.com] Sent: Friday, May 01, 1998 10:34 AM To: sycophant@smoe.org Subject: Re: sycophant Then reality set in... smashing pumpkins one of the biggest tours of the summer? gimmie a break, that's a joke; They suck. What the hell is that about? Last year, lillith fair didn't seem to be a marketing ploy, but now, by no doubt in my mind, that's all it is.-Katie ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 1 May 1998 15:22:57 -0400 (EDT) From: Talulah Gosh Subject: sycophant touring When Lisa Germano tours, does she go to a lot of places? I can't see her coming to Pittsburgh, but she'll probably go to Philadelphia or DC right? I know a lot of bands only do a few cities on their tours. The pumpkins do have some good songs and it will be interesting to see what Lisa adds to them. Plus it will be good to see her playing (i assume) the violin again. Maybe corgan will behave himself and act more mature with Lisa around. On her last tour she played small clubs in major cities. I hope that after this she will go out on her on again. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 1 May 1998 20:52:46 EDT From: StelthBear Subject: Re: sycophant Then reality set in... Actually, she lives in West Los Angeles, and has since around the time of "Excerpts"...the return letter I got from her also had an LA postmark... - -- StealthBear ------------------------------ End of sycophant-digest V3 #22 ****************************** ======================================================================== Please send any questions or comments about the list to sycophant-owner@smoe.org
