Mark ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 25 Mar 1998 10:28:00 -0600 From: Tim Morrison Subject: sycophant Finding "Happiness" and visiting "Moon Palace" Hey all... Thought I'd give some assistance and resource to those looking for copies of "On the Way Down from the Moon Palace", the Capitol version of "Happiness", and the "Inconsiderate Bitch" EP. If you are having trouble finding a new or used copy of "Moon Palace" in your local record store, you can still order it directly from Egg Records. Their web site is at http://www.eggrecords.com. The price is, I believe, $12.98 plus shipping. When I called to order my copy several months ago, the person at Egg told me they had "plenty of copies left." Some of you may know about GEMM (http://www.gemm.com), which is a terrific source for finding rare music. That site pointed me to a place in Seattle called Cellophane Square (http://www.cellophane.com) where I was able to find a used copy of the original version of "Happiness." A quick check reported they did not have a copy at this time. They seem to be pretty good about updating their online catalog, so check GEMM and Cellophane often. Someone on the list mentioned that he buys copies of "Happiness" when he finds them and sells them to people on this list at cost. I'd be willing to do the same, so I'll keep an eye out for copies here in the San Francisco Bay Area. I saw one on my last shopping jaunt recently; the back inlay card was water damaged, but the rest of the package seemed OK. If someone is interested in me picking up this copy (if it's still there) e-mail me directly. Tip: If you find "Happiness" on the web somewhere, make sure you verify with the retailer that the copy they have is the one you want. A lot of retailers I asked were not aware that it had been released previously on Capitol, so you could inadvertently wind up with the 4AD version. Finding a copy of "Inconsiderate Bitch" proved to be, well, a bitch! I understand only 5000 copies were pressed, and I was lucky to get one from a fellow in England who sold me his copy. If you're willing to dig around, it IS possible to find some things, so don't give up. Sometimes the world works in very bizarre ways. If anyone wants a tape of it email me privately. rob Robin Hermann Washington University "There was no want of anything to him Department of History that wanted not money". rhermann@artsci.wustl.edu --John Stow, 1601 Office: (314) 935-7341 (commenting on the 1596-7 inflation) http://www.artsci.wustl.edu/~rhermann ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 25 Mar 1998 17:03:10 -0700 From: Ching Li Subject: sycophant Re: Another Girl <> I think it's great too! This is not just blind devotion. 'Happiness' has been with me for about 4 years now, on the basis of a review in the excellent MOJO magazine, and I haven't looked back since. I still play it regularly now, which is something of an achievement for a serious listener such as myself - I purchase about 100 LP's / CD's a year. In an offhand poll, the only LP's to even get close to this sort of devotion are; Mary Margaret O'Hara - 'Miss America', Nanci Griffith 'One Fair Summer Evening', Tori Amos 'Boys for Pele', Dar Williams 'The Honesty Room', Mahler 5 - Bernstein, Rachmaniov 3 - Argerich, Dylan - 'Blood on the Tracks'. All told, Lisa's masterpiece is still the best. I love all the tracks, though if you were to push me into favourites, 'Bad Attitude' and 'Destroy the Flower', such a devastating opening combination get through to me every time. Roll on the next LP, more eagerly awaited than anything else could be. I just checked back there and they do have three CDs: 505.Lisa Germano - Excerpts From a Love Circus advance promo cd in digi pak $16.99 506.Lisa Germano - Geek the Girl advance promo cd $15.99 507.Lisa Germano - Inconsiderate Bitch ep cd $24.99 So let the race begin... I had no problems with their delivery etc. Still no luck on my search for "I love a snot" or "Cry Wolf" singles though... or the Capitol Happiness for that matter, grr. On yet another non-Lisa-related tangent - someone was asking about the Belly mailing list a while ago. I don't know about the list, but I did see Tanya Donelly in concert a couple of weeks ago (Wellington, NZ) and despite a small early crowd she was pretty damn good.
