First of all, I'm a bonafide Film Buff. Secondly, I'm studying to be a Film Director. Finally, I want to discuss with you all about an indie film called Monster starring Charlize Theron and Christina Ricci. It is a true story about a prostitute (Theron) who has been raped, abused, and shit on by men all of her life. She finally meets a woman who is a lesbian (Ricci) and falls in love with her. This is a story that was screaming to get told, and a story that was yearning to get told in such a brilliant and introspective way. I had heard all of the buzz for this movie, such as Theron turning herself literally into a monster. During the whole movie, you are spellbound. Your are captured by the story, the reality of this woman's pain. You are not watching from a squeaky, reclining chair above a soda infested floor. You are in Theron's mind, right on the street with her, in the car giving head to some fat old man. This movie is brutal, honest, and mysteriously uplifting. When the movie ended, I remained in my seat and stared at the screen with tears plummeting down my face. When I see films this engaging, they get into my skin, into my blood, and they settle on my mind. I was speechless. I made it out to the car, to my house, and into this chair to tell you, my hopefully interested friends, about a movie that you must see. Not because of special effects (there are none), beautiful women (there are none), or hot lesbian sex (there is some-and if you are looking to get off, go watch Mulholland Drive). Go see this film for the raw power it exudes, the desperation of the main character, the humanity that it holds. Peace Out, Amanda ------------------------------ End of precious-things-digest V9 #25 ************************************
