First things first: CDBaby has a really great CD for you all called Test Drive Songs. It's ten bucks. CDBaby is a great little INDEPENDENT music store - the indies need our support, ya know? Here's a link to the page where you can pick up that little gem, as well as read a terrific and very informative article about Charlotte Martin. There's also some fun info for all you Goths out there! http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/charlotte Yes, there is a spooky Tori essence in her music, and in her shows. But think about it... Wouldn't we all love to hop into the ol' time machine and see Tori Amos in little clubs, where she can really connect with the mood of the crowd, where she can goof off and do whatever she wants, where we can walk up to her and get a hug after the show and talk to her for five minutes without barricades and bodyguards and inconsiderate people up front who won't step out after their turn and let the people in back get a chance for some touch at the meet and greets? Well, ten years from now that will be the case with Charlotte Martin, she's just that good. Get it now. Then ten years from now you'll have all these cool stories and autographed cdr demos and an autographed ticket stub that says "I eat peas!!" on it and we can all interpret her music and chase down her star charts and all that cool stuff on a list such as this one! Cool, huh? As for the comparisons, hey, I can still like Coldplay even though they probably owe a nod or nickel to Thom and the boys in Radiohead, right? Without John Coltrane do we have Magma? (Sorry, VERY obscure reference...) I am now going to Baskin Robbins 31 Flavors (Not ONE flavor, THIRTY one...) to get a double scoop cup of chocolate and chocolate fudge. They are really siimilar, there are subtle nuances, I'm sure chocolate fudge appreciates chocolate for it's groundbreaking efforts, and THEY BOTH TASTE REAL GOOD! YUMMMMMMMM... Just "food" for thought... Eat your peas... I was curious about the similarities and wanted to point them out. After I listened to her (and downloaded her) I was instantly warmed to her music and words. I think I'm a fan, but to cement me in her loyalty I need to see her live. And I seriously doubt she'll be coming to my podunk town of Lubbock, fucking Texas. But if she does, I'll be in line, and at the front of the stage. Enjoy that Ice Cream Johnny! Vincent was the follow-up hit single to American Pie in 1972 and was actually a bigger hit than American Pie in some countries! ------------------------------ End of precious-things-digest V8 #239 *************************************
