It seemed to me that it could possibly be a cover, I then did a quick search and there is definately a song with that title. i pasted that info after the dent's story. I found that it is also a book title, by Mary Higgins Clark but I doubt that inspired tori's song. And its a movie title http://movies.go.com/filmography/Credits?movie_id=11626 Tori contributes the song "You Belong to Me" to the Mona Lisa Smile Soundtrack Posted Fri, Oct 10, 2003 - 4:53am ET | Music We recently found out that the upcoming movie "Mona Lisa Smile" (in which Tori makes a cameo appearance) will have a Soundtrack that is due in the U.S. on November 25, 2003 on Epic/Sony Music Soundtrax. I just found out from eef that Tori contributes a song called You Belong to Me to the soundtrack. Eef saw this song on a Sony Music Advance Sampler. Tori's vocals on the song are reportedly husky and very different from anything she's ever done. The song has an old big band feel to it. It is not known at this time if this is the only contribution Tori makes to the Soundtrack or if there is more. I just updated the Dent's Mona Lisa Smile Page to include all these things. The movie Mona Lisa Smile opens in theatres December 19, 2003. Gosh, that's not the one which holds most of the history of the song. The big hit that begat all the ones to come later is the 1952 Jo Stafford version. Listening to a Bob Dylan version of You Belong to Me to become acquainted with the song would be like listening to the Johnny Cash recording of Hurt to become acquainted with Trent Reznor's composition. Anyhow, trust me: Tori Amos's version of You Belong to Me is informed by the big Stafford hit recording more than any other. I'm sure her mom's record collection contained it and that Tori sang it in bars many, many times. I'm shocked to find out this song was first published in 1952. A bit of clicking around does seem to confirm that. I always took the song to be one of those WWII songs with a woman saying goodbye to her man as he went off to the war. Now I'm really curious if it did have its seeds in the war even though it wasn't published until years later. I'm not planning to track down biographies of Pee Wee King to find out, though. ;-) Anyway, live and learn. Thanks for the info, Ellen. Missed you over the weekend, BTW.
