The downtrodden-girl motif that runs right through the LE songs in particular ("maybe one day she'll be her own") should give you some excellent material & imagery ("he said you're really an ugly girl"). Then there's the concept of A Sorta Fairytale of course, though maybe the imagery in that is more Little Red Riding Hood (Scarlet pulled back the Hood etc) than Cinders. Carbon refers to Neil's Snow Glass Apples story, which is a rewriting of Sleeping Beauty. Maybe even picking just one song and going right down into every detail? I've just done a bit of random googling and found this interesting debate about fairytale symbolism in tori's music at: http://www.surlalunefairytales.com/boardarchives/2002/mar2002/toriamos.html Whatever you do, go for it - and it'd be really interesting if you did want to post the result here :-) Good luck! pete xx # virtue is relative at best # there's nothing worse than a sunset # when you're driving due west = ani difranco, virtue ------------------------------ End of precious-things-digest V8 #41 ************************************
