For now, this info-file will serve for both the loose-mail versions and the
digest version)

It is suggested you save this email for reference, or at least remember how
to retrieve a copy of it (explained below)

Hi, I'm Mike Connell and I am the manager of this list, which is run ON the
hardware owned by the ever so generous Jeff Wasilko, who lives in northern
Virginia. I run it remotely from my shack in Binghamton NY. (where Patty
will likely NEVER appear...even though her manager has been here when he
was a roadie for various bands :)

There is also a digest version of this list. To subscribe to it, in the
body of an email send the two-line command

subscribe
end

to mad-mission-digest-request@smoe.org

Shortly thereafter you will receive an email from confirm@smoe.org
It will contain a key/code that you have to send back TO confirm@smoe.org
Do that and you are in :)

Since the list is relatively low volume, the digest will likely only
come once a day (about 1:35am EST), and that would ONLY be
on a day where there was a post to the regular (loose mail) list. If there
is not a post on a given day, there won't be a digest that day. If the
loose mail volume is high enough on a given day, once the cumulative totals
reach 18,000 bytes (18K), a digest will automatically be published and sent
to the subscribers. Note - subscribing to the digest and saving them is an
easy way to archive all the emails to this list for easy-reference
reasons....so it is OK to subscribe to both versions.

There is also a news only version. Posts to that version come FROM the
loose-mail/digests versions. When a post comes in to those lists that
is deemed "Patty news", I'll send it on to the news list subscribers. To
subscribe to THAT version, send the two line command

subscribe
end

to mad-mission-news-request@smoe.org and then reply to the email
from confirm@smoe.org when you receive that.

I hope to soon be writing a more in depth/new & improved "Welcome to
Mad-Mission", and will hopefully have it up by Y2K ;-)    When it is done,
it is what new subscribers will get upon joining the list, and I will also
post it TO the list. The latest copy can always be retrieved by sending the
two-line command:

loose mail or the digest), send an email to

and all the folks subscribed will get a copy of your message.

To easily differentiate posts from this list with your other incoming
email, all posts FROM this list will have      MM:    in the beginning of
the subject.

Until I get the new & improved "Welcome To Mad Mission" info-file written,
all I ask is that we all play nice, get to know each other, try to stay
somewhat on topic (Patty, her music, music,  each other etc) and share
experiences, opinions, and information on the main reason this list exists,
the wonderful Patty Griffin and her music :)
