Researching about the projects. >This is something I would be very interested in getting involved >in, it keeps it real you know! Great idea, Catherine! And to show that great minds think alike, list members formed and incorporated the EveryDay Angels Foundation two years ago this month! ;-) We incorporated in Los Angeles (aka, the City of Angels) on November 24, 1997. The same week, dozens of EDAs spent their Thanksgiving Day at a women's shelter, and celebrated Thanksgiving dinner together the following Friday at the Moraleses home. That night, we held an EDAF launch concert at Java Joes, where many San Diego artists played for us. Despite feeling a bit under the weather, Jewel made a surprise guest appearance and sung for us, too. The evening culminated with a "pajama jam" party where we slept over at Java Joes. The Foundation was formed for the specific purpose of channeling Jewel list members' desires to make a difference into real world actions. Incorporators of the Foundation include current directors and officers Amy Neufeld, Tom Proven and Dennis Harris, as well as other well known EDAs Alan "MrBB" Bershaw, Mike Connell and Larry Greenfield. Dozens of EDAs were involved in the creation of the group, which is a federally recognized 501(c)3 non-profit public benefit corporation. Currently, we have around four dozen EDAs who have joined the Foundation as official supporting members, lending their voice and support to our mission. We also have literally hundreds of "friends" of the Foundation who have participated in our programs, such as foodbank volunteer days, beach and waterway adoption/cleanups and documenting and honoring acts of everyday kindness. We have partnered with several large non-profits, including the Second Harvest Foodbank Network and the Center for Marine Conservation. We have also met with the staff of HGH on several occasions and have determined that the goals of both our groups are remarkably similar and very much in sync for what we want to achieve. We have offered each other support for various programs. HGH even made a generous donation to the EDAF earlier this summer to help support our operation. From the information we have, Project Clearwater is an excellent program, and one certainly worthy of support. Direct donation to HGH for their Project Clearwater and purchasing the single "Life Uncommon" (which donates some of the proceeds to the project) is a fine way to make a MONETARY contribution to the addressing this dire problem. In fact, with the pro-activism lyrics of "Life Uncommon", we recommend it as an excellent stocking stuffer gift to give to all your friends and family, raising money for Clearwater AND getting others to think about getting involved in their own communities! While donating money is a good start, the EDAF also urges everyone to get PERSONALLY INVOLVED by educating themselves about the problem (fire up that web browser and search some environmental sites after you visit www.clearwaterproject.org) and getting out and lending your hands to cleaning up a local waterway. Set an example for others, and always strive to leave any place you visit a little cleaner and a little healthier than you found it. That's the true nature of being an EveryDay Angel -- having a positive impact on the people and situations around you! Later this week we will announce a couple of EDAF activities, including a winter clothing/blanket drive. Our main area of concern was -- and remains -- helping at-risk people with the basic necessities (food, clothing and shelter). There are so many ways we can all help, and we hope to see this recent surge of generosity and list enthusiasm for helping others transfer to keeping your neighbors warm and fed as well! More information on your EDAF can be found online at www.edaf.org or by emailing the Foundation at EDAFinfo@aol.com. While you are online, please go to: www.edaf.org/kindness/edakbook.html ...and take the time to view the online EveryDay Acts of Kindness Scrapbook, which documents how EDAs have made a difference in their communities in wonderful and creative ways! The EDAF was founded by EDAs for EDAs, both on and off this list. Every one of you is invited to participate in realizing this vision of truly being and living as an everyday angel. Well I finally got Joy, and I LOVE IT! Face of Life is probably one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard, but for some reason, the beginning of the 3 song medley sounds like the beginning of the Peanuts cartoon... anyone else think that? Anyways, I think the 5 dollar idea was a great one! I will gladly participate, just need the address :) Well that's about all, Her new video is definately Jewel but a little different to give a variety. Well, I think that's about all Sheila, the rambling girl who wants angel wings for Christmas ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V4 #670 ***************************
