Wow, this is amazing...almost makes me want to be a high schooler again ;) I'm back in Sturgeon Bay this week, cause we have spring break at UW-Madison. Yesterday I went to visit my old HS. I had an English teacher who's pretty young (she grew up down the street from me--I've known her since I was about five), she went to college in Alaska, and she's always looking for new material to teach and especially for things that high schoolers will want to learn. So I asked her if she knew about Jewel and her upcoming poetry book; I figured I'd try to talk her into teaching some of it in her poetry units...turned out she'd already had the same idea! It's not for sure, but still, I just think that's great! Later that day, I was in Wal-Mart looking at PlayStation games and I thought I heard YWMFM. I turned and there was a Jewel special on the display TV's, the entire row! I watched for a while, it showed clips from concerts and videos and some footage of her in Alaska. I was surprised to see no snow on the ground. I live in Sturgeon Bay, WI. We have water on three sides to calm our weather and we still have six-month winters on average, so I assumed someplace like Alaska had to be buried in ice all year. I guess I should have been paying more attention to the "Before They Were Rock Stars" special a couple weeks back -- I checked and Alaska's snowless there too (: Thanks to everyone who's given me guitar advice. As it turned out, I found my mom's old guitar in our attic a few days ago, and I've been learning on that. But it doesn't have much life left, so I know I've got to buy one soon and thanks to everyone for your help!! I know I'm probably rambling, but here's one last thought for today. If Jewel was a creature from legend (and I'm sure many of you will tell me she is) I think she would definitely be a siren. Her rapturous beauty and magical singing can make any man lose his senses. And her singing gets to women too, so she even more powerful than legends say! :) "I'm sensitive, and I'd like to stay that way." -- our beloved Jewel Mike Rusche Angel In Training ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 13 Mar 1998 00:31:49 -0600 (CST) From: Joanna Subject: ontario show and stuff hey- i was just wondering if anyone would be taping the show... i really like it when jewel performs pieces of you... also, i never really post much at all, but hi to all and please try to stay sweet to each other just my little tid bits, joanna ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 13 Mar 1998 01:59:13 -0500 From: Fred Norris Subject: Canadian broadcast Hey fellow EDA's, Someone recently informed us about the following: This Sunday two Canadian radio stations will be broadcasting the recording of Jewel's recent (February 5th, 1998) "secret show" at Legends at The Strathcona Hotel in Victoria, British Columbia. This was an "invitation only" small intimate gig & Jewel's only full length show so far in 1998<<<< If someone would tape this, on a high quality cassette, the whole show, I hereby volunteer to make 12 copies of it to spread around in a tree-like format. If you plan to tape and provide good quality, please contact me and I'll get a tree going. Well, according to my calendar, that is a Sunday. Mother's Day to be precise. Considering that nothing is ever released to a store on Sunday, and that most book releases hit shelves on Wednesdays, we may want to look later that week around the 13th ?? Or could it be the 20th, which is a Wednesday?? Just thinking out loud for a change. Hope everyone is doing well. Adam Pieces of Jewel http://jewel.zoonation.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 13 Mar 1998 08:12:36 EST From: ABershaw Subject: MrBB-Jewel's Poetry Book Title/Info Hi, Several people have privately emailed me about the title of Jewel's upcoming poetry book. Bibi does have the correct spelling on the website. It is called "A Night Without Armour". (Many seem to think its supposed to be "A Knight Without Armour".) As those familiar with Jewel already know, her poetry tends to be much more autobiographical & personal than her song lyrics. This book is now scheduled to hit USA stores on May 10th, 1998. It's published by Harper-Collins & contains over 100 of Jewel's poems. I'm not aware of non-USA availability at this time, but I'm sure it can easily be ordered from any reliable bookstore worldwide after that date. I'll post the ISBN # when its been assigned one. I haven't that info just yet. All the best, MrBB ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 13 Mar 1998 06:55:10 -0800 (PST) From: Flower Child Subject: BlockBuster Awards And The "Secret Gig" HI EDA's, I watched the Blockbuster Awards and I never saw Jewel, Never heard them say her name and never heard she won a award. I was really pissed when she wasn't present, and wasn't nominated. So I don't know about this award thing. As soon as heard there was going to be a Jewel thing aired in Canada, I found a new 90 min tape put it in my player, found the radio station. Which was really weird because I was just flipping though the stations, wasn't paying much attention. And then that sweet voice came on and Jewel's Foolish Games was playing, I thought to myself this has to be the station and it was. I ready to tape it. If it works out good I will send a message out on Monday for anyone who wants a copy, to e-mail me privately. It's part of the new image being given the league through its' partnership with The Atlantic Group and New Line Television. The CBA game footage will be woven into Atlantic produced music videos by a number of the label's performers, including Jewel, All 4 One, Sugar RAy and Tori Amos" ******************************** I find it hard to believe Jewel even knows about this yet, and I myself would be quite surprised if this includes any songs that may be on the next CD.....hopefully it's just some promo songs/music about the game etc that Jewel doesn't even write. I just can't picture footage of 3 point shots, layups, and high-fives during a Carnivore or The Face Of Love video :-( Mike * If you are new to the Jewel list and need a helping hand * The Jewel EveryDay Angels List Homepage & Guide is at: * http://www.spectra.net/~ducksoup * * If you have list related questions, feel free to email me * at Ducksoup@spectra.net * * DuckofPrey@aol.com WhyADuck55 on AOL Instant Messenger ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 13 Mar 1998 11:33:18 -0800 (PST) From: "C. "Night" can be taken as either night or knight, and with the spelling "Armour" (the British spelling, as opposed to the American "armor"), it not only gives me the impression of being without armor (rather defenseless), but my first impression was actually of being without "amour", which is French for "love".
