Today's Subjects: ----------------- another little musical discovery [Steve VanDevender Subject: another little musical discovery While all you lucky people in the east are getting to see Happy perform with The Security Project (I at least crossed off the bucket list entry for "see Happy live" by attending Ectofest 2000), along with the videos people have posted from Security Project shows I've found something else to musically entertain myself. A week ago Friday I happened to encounter this video: "Data & Picard": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bl5TUw7sUBs If you were a fan of Star Trek: The Next Generation, there's a lot to love in this video, including the recreation of Data and Picard's mannerisms, the masterful lighting and compositing that almost convinces you he's standing in the original sets, and the tune's kind of catchy too. The creator of that video goes by the stage name Pogo (actually Nick Bertke from Perth, Australia), and it turns out he's been around for a while. He calls himself a "remix artist" which is maybe selling himself a little short, as what he actually does is use small bits of audio taken from one or more sources to create complex original compositions. He first became famous for this trippy piece based on the Disney animated "Alice in Wonderland" he posted in 2007: "Alice": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pAwR6w2TgxY Surprisingly this did not result in a cease-and-desist from Disney but a invitation from them to make more music and videos based on other movies. But what I really came here to post about were these two pieces which I just cannot stop listening to: "The Trouble": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FRSr0GprIIw "Whisperlude": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P4jmB9fdZc8 ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 1 Nov 2016 00:54:07 -0400 From: "robert bristow-johnson" Subject: Happy in Massachusetts i hope this billing is wrong about the lead singer: https://tickets.bullrunrestaurant.com/ anyway, assuming it *is* wrong and http://securityprojectband.com/go/ is correct, is there someone besides me from Boston driving out to Shirley MA for this gig on Friday? it looks like about an hour drive. wanna car pool? it can be your car or mine. i'd be happy to kick in gas. please email or FB me. i'd love to share a car. free Happy Many Worlds CD for you. - -- r b-j rbj@audioimagination.com "Imagination is more important than knowledge." ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V16 #1844 ****************************
