I probably wouldn't feel so frustrated if it wasn't so very obvious that her version is a downright imitation of Charlotte Martin's. It's one of my favourite songs by her, btw. The two versions sound almost exactly the same except that Boyle's is shorter without the breathtaking a capella near the end and also, it's weighted down by heavy string arrangements that recall Natalie Cole around Stardust. I am not amused. Boyle's imitation is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DM7Dc3KfcX0 All best, Leonora _________________________________________________________________ Fe 25 GB lagerplads pe nettet! http://www.microsoft.com/danmark/windows/windowslive/products/skydrive.aspx ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 Sep 2009 09:13:04 -0400 From: "Varker, Patrick" Subject: Vampire Diaries Wanted to make mention of Kate's "Running Up That Hill" being sung (by unknown male artist) on the first episode of The Vampire Diaries, new series on the CW. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 Sep 2009 08:58:35 -0500 From: Jon Wesley Huff Subject: Re: Charlotte Martin vs. Susan Boyle I think that's more of a take on The Sundays version, which I think Charlotte Martin's version probably owes something to as well. I read a fan post that had the person wigging out that it was their version and not Within Temptation's, at which my jaw dropped and eyes fell out for blasphemy. IMO, WT is a terrible terrible band, and they did an awful version of the song. The Chromatics did a cover which was interesting instrumentally, but the lead singer killed it. I mean, even from the first line you know it's *just wrong*. That said, it irritates me a bit that people aren't going to think or don't think that the Kate Bush version is the original. - -Sarah On Mon, 14 Sep 2009 11:15:16 -0700 (PDT), Tim Jones-Yelvington wrote: > yuck. > > > > ----- Original Message ---- > From: Aly Fields > To: Tim Jones-Yelvington > Cc: ecto@smoe.org > Sent: Monday, September 14, 2009 12:56:08 PM > Subject: Re: Vampire Diaries > > Tim - > > YouTube has the WT video... it's... just... dreadful.
