Surely the name Gabriela Kulka isn't too foreign to most Ecto folk. Her vocal range reminds me of Kate Bush - and she plays a mean piano, a-la earlier Tori. She's fiercely original, and I think she's fantastic. Her first release, "Between Miss Scylla and a Hard Place", contains a number of essential songs.. "Bodybags", ""Some Things Are Better", "She", "Coup d'Etat", "Shoes".. it's a marvelous achievement, considering she basically put the whole thing together herself.. (another reason to admire her talent..) Her new cd, "Out", is now available from cdBaby for a mere $11.00.. (and "Miss Scylla" is available there too, for an even merer $9.00!) You can stream the entire album, and download a number of tracks in-full at her website: http://gabakulka.com/out/eng/index.htm Definitely worth checking into! :-) - -- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "This is the time. Has anyone heard of a british folkie named Kathryn Williams? Just stumbled across her somewhere. Sounds lovely. Any recommendations? ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 25 Aug 2006 22:04:12 -0600 From: neal copperman Subject: Sofia Karlsson I was listening to a sampler of Swedish music the other day. The kickoff track is from "Svarta ballader" by Sofia Karlsson and is a stunningly beautiful song. Sounds like classic Joan Baez. She's apparently the lead singer of Groupa, who I've never really noticed before (though I'm sure I have them on samplers too). This CD is all music of the poetry of Dan Andersson. Anyone know anything about this album? Just curious, neal np: The Venezualan Zinga Son Vol 1 - Los Amigos Invisibles (try as I might, these guys remain too loungy and cheesey for my taste) ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V12 #226 ***************************
