PLEASE READ AND SAVE this message for future reference. ================= TABLE OF CONTENTS ================= 1. About deep-blue 2. Email addresses to remember 3. Common majordomo commands 4. Basic posting guidelines 5. A message for new subscribers 1. ABOUT DEEP-BLUE ================== Deep-blue is a place for fans to meet and discuss the music of Peter Mulvey. All are welcome, but please be aware that there are a few basic guidelines for the group. These guidelines are outlined in Section 4 below, and are aimed at making (and keeping) the list a friendly place to be. This list is available in both bounce and digest format. "Bounce" means that individual messages will be sent to you as soon as the list server receives them. "Digest" means that the list server will compile all list messages and send them to you as one long message, either every 24 hours or when a certain size quota is reached, whichever happens first. See Section 3 for instructions for switching between bounce and digest formats. Deep-blue was established on July 19, 1998 by Sherlyn Koo (sherlyn@pixelopolis.com). Thanks to the folks at smoe.org for giving this list a home. Thanks to Kerry Bernard and the others at Young/Hunter Management for their support in setting up this list. If you have any questions about the list, please contact the list owner at owner-deep-blue@smoe.org. 2. EMAIL ADDRESSES TO REMEMBER ============================== There are three main email addresses to be aware of: 1) DEEP-BLUE@SMOE.ORG - This is the list address. Any mail sent here will automatically be forwarded to all members of the mailing list. 2) MAJORDOMO@SMOE.ORG - All majordomo commands should be sent here. 3) OWNER-DEEP-BLUE@SMOE.ORG - All mail sent here will automatically be forwarded to the list owner. Majordomo commands can also be sent to deep-blue-request@smoe.org or deep-blue-digest-request@smoe.org, provided you know the correct command syntax. 3. COMMON MAJORDOMO COMMANDS ============================ This is a list of some of the most commonly used majordomo commands. Where indicated, replace "" with your actual email address. 1) To join the bounce version of the list: subscribe deep-blue 2) To leave the bounce version of the list: unsubscribe deep-blue 3) To join the digest version of the list: subscribe deep-blue-digest 4) To leave the digest version of the list: unsubscribe deep-blue-digest 5) To switch from bounce to digest: unsubscribe deep-blue subscribe deep-blue-digest 6) To switch from digest to bounce: unsubscribe deep-blue-digest subscribe deep-blue 7) To find out who is subscribed to the bounce list: who deep-blue 8) To find out who is subscribed to the digest list: who deep-blue-digest 9) To order the information file for the list: info deep-blue 10) To order a help file on majordomo commands: help If you are having trouble with any of these commands contact the list owner at owner-deep-blue@smoe.org. 4. BASIC POSTING GUIDELINES =========================== These guidelines are intended: a) to try to maintain the friendly atmosphere of the list; and b) to try to keep the list somewhat on-topic. Note that they are only guidelines not unbreakable rules, and so can be treated with a certain amount of leeway. This doesn't mean you can ignore them entirely though! 1) Be nice (we expect everyone to follow this one!) 2) Have fun (ditto) 3) Don't be afraid to post off-topic material if you think it's relevant, but 4) Personal messages should be sent via private email 5) Don't flame to the list, even (especially!) in the case of spam 6) Don't forward attachments, chain letters, virus warnings, cookie recipes or other messages of this type to the list This mailing list is NOT moderated. However, majordomo has some built-in filters which may forward your mail to the list owner for "approval" before it is distributed over the list. Messages which may require approval include: - very long messages - messages that the list server mistakes for spam - messages containing the words "subscribe" or "unsubscribe" Messages which are bounced for approval will be processed as soon as possible. 5. A MESSAGE FOR NEW SUBSCRIBERS ================================ If you are joining this mailing list for the first time, then welcome to our community! We look forward to your input. Don't be shy about stepping forward to introduce yourself to the list, or about asking questions. If you have any administrative problems or questions about the list, please don't hesitate to contact me at owner-deep-blue@smoe.org. I will get back to you as soon as I can. Welcome again, and enjoy your stay, Sherlyn Koo Owner, deep-blue mailing list
