A few months later, Haworth died of pneumonia, and became the second Burnley manager to die while in the post; his successor was Burnley-born Albert Pickles. Jerry Dawson, who holds the record for the most first team appearances in all competitions for Burnley with 569, retired in 1929 after 22 years at the club.
