As someone who drives to FruCon (325 miles), weather plays a big part in my travel pans, especially during February. Driving through the snowbelt in February is unpredictable at best. Plus, yeah, I've driven to T.O. the first two years. It's a ten-hour drive, and though it's been quite bearable, that's been more a fluke of the weather each time than a reliability. >Ok, well, here's some more discussion points. Mmm, during the first two FruCons I remember being outside quite a bit. We walked around, looked at Toronto, found good little places to eat. If the Con were held during warmer months, I think there would be more variety of Things To Do. Fruheads have hardly experienced the city together. >Plus, I don't know, changing the date, it might be able to bring more >people out, but, it could also confuse some people as to when it'll be >and just make them not bother. Some of your other arguments (and Kath's) are certainly valid, but keeping the status quo just because it's the status quo is hardly, uh, 'the Fruvous way,' wouldn't you say? FruCon is an event for which people need to seek out information themselves, it's not like the same stupid flyer comes to their snail-mail box every year around the same time, in the same gaudy colors. They'd deal perfectly fine with a change in date. I'll be across an ocean for the next year, so won't be making it to FruCon in any case. But making it be during the summer months (safer roads - that's a big one, all the stuff that people have mentioned, plus more things to do in the city that aren't dictated by weather) does seem like a good idea to me. - -Vika ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 24 Aug 2001 16:21:04 GMT From: Kath Subject: Re: Frucon 5? (i don't know if any of my stuff is going through. maybe not. that's probably for the best. go fruvous. maybe that'll help.) toronto in august may be groovy, but there's no way i personally can afford two trips east in the summer. for what it's worth. and forced to choose . .i'd probably opt for falconridge unless the lineup takes an unexpected nosedive. um. if anyone cares. jaci-from-seattle _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 23 Aug 2001 09:56:24 -0700 From: "jaci d" Subject: Re: Frucon 5? >Brent Miller wrote: > > > Why not March, April or May? I cannot speak for Chris - if you're interested, you should perhaps ask him directly. I'll be living and working in London for a year; there is much travel already scheduled for that time, and none of it involves travel to North America (unless required by my university). So I am afraid I will not be able to make it to FruCon, whether it is held in February, in June or anytime in-between. Have fun, though. - -vz Vika Zafrin change ayteetee to att to reply ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 24 Aug 2001 02:01:53 +0000 From: "Jill MoonPoet69" Subject: Re: Frucon 5? Speaking as a student (College) .. weekends are usually the best for me (any weekend) I do work in the summer but I could easily take off in advance for a weekend. If you did it in the summer I think you could probably utilize Independance day here for the same type of airfare deals and hotel rates... That's my birthday too so it would make a nice present and weekend for me :) Just a Suggestion! :) Jill "from Fredonia" "Music Self-Played is Happiness Self-Made" _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp ------------------------------ End of alt.music.moxy-fruvous digest V5 #231 ********************************************
