I'm surprised at how much I listen to it already considering I was thinking "this is the stuff that isn't making it onto the full-length CD"---It's got a lot of the musical elements I dig on records, you know, just stuff like instruments dropping out for JUUUST a bit and the voice carrying on... some really nice instrumental "themes," I like the choruses... when the drums are "live" they're great, good syncopation... folks are kind of raggin' on "Natalia"-- the recorded version. I do agree he's bein' pretty adventurous (if you just listen to the first few seconds it sounds like it could go into an 80s Biz Markie rap song-heh) but I still can dig on listening to it because of where he's coming from (I've been close with some self destructive folks in my time, but haven't we all-- no, no one you know, thanks for asking). Of course I've only seen him live solo *twice* and I know a lot of my downer with Thornhill was that I heard the songs live a ton of times before hearing the...errr... inferior recordings *ulp*. The sound overall I like... I could pull out pieces that remind of of the Beatles, things that remind me of old-school U2, etc. etc. But I loveloveLOOOOVE "Astronaut." I don't get how anyone is lukewarm on this cut!! Arrrgh!! Of course my ear really craves a good pop tune and if I know it will sound good on the radio (and isn't already being overplayed), I'll often like it. This song is SUCH a representation of what I like it's not funny--a sweeping instrumental theme, a buildup from quiet to loud, a hooky chorus with good harmonies, and a melody simple enough it doesn't get in the way of the progression of the song. Yeah! Well, it appears very kiss-uppy, and I've rambled more than I meant to and had time to, but oh well. Feeling pretty charitable today, I guess ;) Maybe it's because my "future husband" Miro Satan finally got re-signed with the Sabres, $3.4 million a year! Yippee! Angel "Satan" :) ------------------------------ Date: 14 Aug 2001 17:09:45 -0700 From: zone5@home.com (Brent Miller) Subject: Re: Fruhead songs being released to the masses...
