So what you're saying is, Les is more! Agreed: I saw them in Cambridge, MA last night (something I hadn't been planning to do, but ended up doing anyway), and Les is amaaaazing, especially on steel guitar. The show itself was pretty good - it wasn't an "oh my god it changed my life" good, but a good, solid show. I'm glad I blew off work for it. :) - -Vika - -------- Vika Zafrin -------- vika@attglobal.net -------- http://www.brown.edu/Research/Decameron Playing in traffic on the information superhighway. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 05 Apr 2001 15:11:00 GMT From: Katherine Maheux Subject: Re: News on Dave-o Wallis wrote: > > Does anyone know if there is going to be a release show? > Mi > That's funny coming from you, Michelle, considering you're the person I would ask about that very thing ;) You *have* seen Dave a whole lot more than the rest of us (or at least you had last time I saw you). I don't think I pick the right music genre sometimes... oh, wait. Nevermind. I get Danny Michel and Andy Stochansky. We rose from the ashes to bring you this little-known fact: even death by fire cannot dislodge a "Persian Cowboy" earworm! This is not necessarily a bad thing, but Fiona was hoping to spend eternity listening to an entire album - Sgt Pepper, say - not one 4-line chorus. The timewarp saved us from a 15 hour ride back to Toronto, which is almost exactly the same amount of time that it took the boys of 3 Song Circus to get from Alfred, NY to Northampton, MA on Sunday. The story can be summed up in two short sentences. "Andy Stochansky is an idiot" and "Dave Tobey needs to learn to keep his mouth shut." ('Cause, in all fairness to Andy, the police didn't get involved until after Dave opened his mouth.) Let's just say some people forget their wallets in the hotel two hours behind, and some people open their mouths and say "Let's go back." And some people who feel guilty that other people have travelled six hours to get back to square one try to make up the time by driving excessively fast. Some people misplace their licenses. Sometimes cops notice these things. And some people's Catholic schoolboy good looks and puppy eyes are not always enough to keep them from being frisked and thrown in the back of a squad car. Ahem. Some people have to learn that the answer to "Are you carrying any arms?" is not "I'm *Canadian*!" Other people have to learn to listen to Jian when he says "Let's call the hotel and have it sent," because sometimes, being the "nice guy" just lands you in trouble. You know, a lot of people had trouble with time on this trip. Of course, not everyone got burned to a crisp. Did you know that the bass line of Dan Bern's "Murderer" can be considered witchcraft? But we digress... However, speaking of bass lines, we've noticed that Jian has discovered the inherent coolness of bass playing. Fiona reports that he does not shame the Gods of Bass (by the way, they say hi, Chad). He does, however, shame the rest of the group with his painful puns. Or perhaps when they left the stage, they were just mourning the loss of Andy Gibb, which he kept rubbing in to the tune of "With or Without You". In the spirit of "With or Without You", once abandoned by his fellow Canadians (with the American soon to follow), Jian gamely began playing bass and drums at once - quite well, actually. Oddly, they abandoned him onstage much like we were abandoned at the crossroads and left to be pecked clean by various birds. Maybe that's not an analogy the rest of you can relate to. You want to hear about the concert, right? Or maybe you just want to hear about Erin, the fruit-throwing Bjvrk impersonator. She's got a good arm, that Erin; however, other people need to watch for flying citrus products when she points their way with that Babe Ruth look in her eye. She should not have to yell "Fruit!" There were no mishaps the first time, when she threw a grapefruit into the balcony, unless you call chants of "Throw the baby!" mishaps. We are happy to report that Maria LoCicero is still in one piece. Unlike the two of us. It was Andy who finally stopped the fun, by eating the last projectile and refusing to project it. Andy caused a lot of trouble this trip. We blame him for our untimely deaths. But we forgive him. He played "One Day." No wait, we don't. He didn't play "Song For You." And fire hurts. For those of you who want a momento of us, we hear that Jian will remove the novel "Jian", a gift from Kath many moons ago, from its prominent position in the kick drum and distribute pages of it among the mourners. Fiona, however, will be lost to memory. She's a little pissed off about that. In a witchly spirit of sisterhood, we have decided Erin McKeown needs to be discussed further. She also may be a witch. Exhibit A: The unpronounceable last name, like "Maheux" or "Gardiner". Exhibit B: Erin could easily be mistaken for Katherine's roommate Brandy, much as we were mistaken for agents of darkness. All in all we had a great time until the horde of villagers descended upon us. It was worth the 15 hour bus ride. The carnage that ensued was perhaps more that we paid for. So by all means, go to the show. Just try to remain in your own century. Sincerely, Fiona and Katherine P.S. - Andy, the answer to "Do you have any arms?" is "I'm a drummer." Some Canadians don't have arms. They are not drummers. Some of them paint with their feet, though. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 06 Apr 2001 02:03:16 -0500 From: blee3@hotmail.com Subject: Getting Back To You Regarding Your Request 28653 Are you ready to be successful?
