May or may not be true, but it does give one reason to hope for more shows in the future. While I suppose anything is possible, based on the stuff that I heard last weekend I would say that the concerts committee is collectively on crack. Given the other projects that they are doing and their desire for time apart, I cannot see them doing another show within the next semester. I guess everyone has their price, but I doubt that a college concerts committee has the wherewithal to go that high. :) A.J. - -- "Redefining the role of the United States from enablers to keep the peace to enablers to keep the peace from peacekeepers is going to be an assignment." - --G.W. Donna sick! *raises hand* But, I mean... while FruCon is probably the reason... it makes so much sense. We got very little sleep, we were in close quarters with a lot of different people from a lot of different places, there was a lot of hugging going on... and some people even touched public use bowling balls. Gross. ;) This was the first con I was sick *at* but got sick after... so I feel like I've accomplished something. But, I'm darn sick. The performers are Trina Hamlin and Rachael Sage, and Liz Nickrenz is opening. Trina Hamlin is an astounding, amazing, entrancing, live singer. She is my favorite singer of all. I literally do fall into a trance almost every time I see her sing. She has tremendous power and emotion in her vocal performance, especially when in front of a live audience (for some reason, I find some of her magic is lacking in recordings she's made where there was no audience). She is also one of the best, most emotionally expressive harmonica players I've heard. She can do folk, blues, jazz, rock, and would probably make a great gospel singer too. This will be Trina's first time being a headliner at Passim, though she's performed there as an opener or as parts of other events, several times. Rachael Sage, like Trina, lives in New York City, and this will be her first time at Club Passim, and her first major Boston show AFAIK. Her albums caught my attention at first listen because of their catchy yet complex, well played keyboard melodies. Soon, I also got hooked on her lyrics, and I think she's a songwriter on par with people like Ani or The Nields, and also one of the most easily quotable :) She's been a favorite of mine for several years now. Rachael likes to describe her musical style as "feather boa folk-pop", and her live performance is as colorful as that implies. Liz Nickrenz is a Boston area local, who I happened to meet when someone brought her to WBRS to perform with him a couple of years ago. She has a beautiful voice, and a lyrical style that reminded me of Rachael Sage the moment I first heard Liz sing. I was excited enough that I took on booking shows for her. Web sites: Trina Hamlin: http://www.trinahamlin.com/ Rachael Sage: http://www.rachaelsage.com/ Liz Nickrenz: http://www.liznickrenz.com/ Club Passim: http://www.clubpassim.org/ The show is, once again, Wednesday February 28th, at Club Passim, 47 Palmer Street, in Harvard Square. It's just around the corner from the movie theatre that shows Rocky Horror, and just across from The Border Cafe, on the little cobblestone road. The show will start at 8pm, and cover is $7. You can call ahead to make a reservation, at 617-354-7074 - if you want to reserve a spot at a table, make sure to say that you're reserving for dinner. For those of you able to listen to WBRS's web-cast at http://www.nibblebox.com/public/radio/wbrs.shtml, if you tune in now, you can hear live Trina Hamlin. I'm playing a tape of her performance at WBRS in March of 1998. That should run until about 5pm (eastern). -- Cos (Ofer Inbar) -- cos@polyamory.org http://cos.polyamory.org/ -- WBRS (100.1 FM) -- info@wbrs.org http://www.wbrs.org/ "They say it was the year of the woman / I think it was the year of sex maybe next will be the year of the human / that would be a bit complex" -- Rachael Sage, Sistersong ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 23 Feb 2001 23:22:50 GMT From: "Chris K @*_*@" Subject: Re: Sick Donna Hunt wrote: > "A.J. For those who aren't familiar with recommendations for car travel in northern climes, every winter Canadian car owners are encouraged to include in their trunk, in addition to jumper cables and a first aid kit and a flashlight and such, the following items: candles matches (in waterproof container) bottled water blankets Jen and I, having stowed all of the above (in addition to Smarties, which aren't on that list but should be), thought ourselves quite well-equipped when disaster fell down from above. However, on the QEW exit ramp none were truly necessary. We did, however, discover a fifth, most vital component to our emergency survival kit, and immortalized it in the below refrain: "We got candles and matches and matches and candles and candles and matches and matches and candles and candles and matches and matches and candles and candles and matches and matches and candles And CREDIT CARRRRRRDS!!!"
