Hi Fred, it's nice to hear you're coming by Toronto in February :) I think I might have some bad news, though. I've never seen one of those CDs for sale, and I live here. I was under the impression, actually, that CDs of the Indie release were not for sale, and that only a very small number of them had been made, and that basically the band owned all that was left. That said, this is the kind of thing that usually goes into the Frucon raffle. Not to guarantee that there'll be some this year, or that they even have any left (raffle items from the band have in the past always been a great mystery to us until the day of the convention itself - we're trying to change that), but there have been some at previous raffles, so maybe we'll get lucky. I don't actually have any store addresses or numbers on hand (not a big hunter, you see) but CD Cat has a few locations, as well as Second Spin, and there are a bunch of little stores on Queen and also on Bloor which are always interesting. hKath (woah, I just automatically used the H!) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 30 Jan 2001 19:17:52 -0500 From: Lori Martin Subject: tying up loose ends (was: re: ***Frucon Update***) I'd like to apologize for an analogy I made regarding the tone of last week's newsgroup dialogue, which in one case inadvertently crossed the line into real life applications. I truly regret that it appeared I questioned Richard's professional abilities. What anyone posts here has nothing to do with their job competence. I hope Richard understands that I do not question his dedication to effectively teaching his students. - -- Lori ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 30 Jan 2001 19:24:13 -0500 From: loren becker Subject: my on-topic post: russell wolff russell wolff, one-time fruvous opener and a favourite of many fruheads, is releasing the first single off of his upcoming album this evening. "atlas" will be available through russell's site at http://www.russellwolff.com and through MP3.com at http://www.mp3.com/russellwolff . exact time of deployment is to be determined by MP3.com so keep checking back if you don't find it. russell's new album includes a number of collaborators including murray foster and dave matheson, both of whom are featured on this song. the album was recorded in toronto in october and is slated for release sometime in the next few months. russell is waiting for some of his final collaborations and designs to come in before the full-album release so no date has been set as yet. check the website for more details as they arise. enjoy the single and look forward to the new album! ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 30 Jan 2001 19:13:47 -0500 From: loren becker Subject: Re: Fri eve Anna! wrote: > > > > Jian? Sometime this weekend, > someone said he "used to be" in the band Moxy Fr|vous while introducing > him and he muttered that he still was in the band. > So he, at least, thinks there's still hope :) Well as pessimistic as I think this may be, I think it's definately valid consideration. 2001 is sort of the 10th anniversary of organized Fruvous (1991 is when they started doing som CBC stuff and more serious busking, I believe -- someone please correct me if I'm wrong). And while they've progressed amazingly in, I feel as though they've already been in neutral as a group for a few years. Looking back at *my* own history with this group, I'm ready to admit I'm fizzling -- mostly because they are. I still enjoy listening to them, but mostly because it reminds me a lot of who I was when those songs helped me define who I was as a person; when they were an important part of my identity. Nothing against those people who discovered the band more recently than not, but take a look around you at who is as committed to the band as you are. I think they've hit a plateau right now as a group. Depending on where the "hiatus" takes them, I think it could very reasonably go either way (although if you haven't already guessed, my vote is squarely in the swan song category). I seem to offend everyone these days with my "dramatics" and general comments... let's see if the trend has continued with this post (it's certainly not now nor was it ever the intent). - -- "You need a rag when you're dealing with a dipstick." -- Mike Bullard, "Open Mike" *MOO*MOO*MOO*MOO*MOO*MOO*MOO*MOO*MOO*MOO* Hugo Rodrigues Hugs on the Undernet / 49272270 ICQ Underemployed journalist http://www3.sympatico.ca/hrodrigues Forever Fruvous!!! *MOO*MOO*MOO*MOO*MOO*MOO*MOO*MOO*MOO*MOO* ------------------------------ End of alt.music.moxy-fruvous digest V5 #34 *******************************************
