I answered a question posed, rather than let it ferment into another mysterious, tantalizing, curiosity-spurring bfd in a teapot. Which is all this ever has been, and I can't for the life of me figure out how a public query that wasn't even about a person but a *number* spurred such personal and bitter attack. I also can't believe that normally sensible people who aren't even ON the committee are squabbling over this as if someone had the hubris to ask what their individual birth control methods are. Bill, with whom I usually agree on practically everything but not on this, is right about one thing: this is the stupidest damn "flame war" I've seen here yet. That said, I was caught in the crossfire here by my own stupidity, and I'm now walking away from it. I think I'll just sit over here by the Cuisinart and toss in some peas and press "whirl", thereby drowning out the bickering, since I don't give a damn whether there are 10 people at FruCon or 1510. I'll be there regardless, because I've had my ticket for two weeks, and I'm NOT planning on counting heads of walk-ins. (There. We KNOW one ticket has been sold via Ticketweb. AHA!) LoCicero" Subject: ***Frucon Update 1/26/01*** Lots going on in Frucon-planning land that we want to share with Fruheads near and far. 1) Volunteers: We need a lot more volunteers to make the con a success. Honestly, we're disheartened that only a few people have expressed interest so far. Heck, it's part of the fun to be one of the "official greeters" or to help sell raffle tickets. We need Fruheads in one or two one-hour shifts, plus help at set-up and clean-up. Please email fruconvols@yahoo.com with your availability. 2) Hotel reminder: Rooms at the Colony are SOLD OUT. If you want to get the special "Frucon" discounted room rate at our other hotel, The Comfort Suites, TODAY IS THE LAST DAY TO MAKE A RESERVATION. Details can be found at http://frucon.tripod.com/hotel.html. 3) Canned food drive: Several folks suggested this last year, and we're glad to arrange to collect food for the needy. Each Frucon attendee who brings a canned food item for the collection will receive 1 free raffle ticket, good towards this year's Frucon raffle and some great prizes. 4) Tickets: As of Thursday night, half of the 350 tickets that we put on sale have been purchased (and we've had such a great response for the Sunday breakfast that we've had to increase the space that hotel will allocate for the event!) Buying your tickets via TicketWeb.com is the method that the committee prefers. Not only does it save you money, but it also makes it easier for us to plan the Con. Although the Con Committee won't receive money from TicketWeb until one week after the con (and three weeks after the hall rental bill is due), we need to have people signed up in advance because the upfront costs of the convention are being covered by the committee members, and they need to know that they are going to be able to get their money back. Tickets in advance via TicketWeb are US$9 (about CDN$13.50.) Plus a small service charge. At the door, they'll be CDN$20. If all 350 tickets sell out in advance, we'll do our best to squeeze in a few more people and put more tickets on sale, but the fire code capacity of the Great Hall is 400 including children, guests (like members of Fruvous) and media. Go to http://ticketweb.com/user/?region=on&query=detail&event=186822 for details and to buy your tickets. Tickets are not refundable (unless for some reason the con doesn't happen, in which case TicketWeb automatically issues refunds to the credit card on which your tickets were charged.) 5) Call For Videos: I'm continuing putting together the video program for frucon. I already have most of the TV appearances, as well as the videos and a few shows. However if you have something unusual, or you have decent video of a show that is NOT Lees Palace on Frucon Sunday '99, FRFF '99, or Bowling Green, OH, we might very well be interested in showing some of it at the con. Also if you have a nice clean copy of Adrienne Clarkson's Moxy Fruvous World we could use that. If you think you have anything that we might need, drop me a line at aj@locicero.org. 6) Fr|Miles Bowling: For those who collected 30 Fr|Miles and intend to go bowling with Fr|vous, bowling will take place in Toronto during the weekend of Fr|Con. This is the only bowling opportunity that there will be. While the Committee is NOT organizing the bowling, Fr|vous has asked us to help them compile the list of Fr|Miles holders who intend to participate, so we have set up an e-mail address: bowlingIV@hotmail.com For now, just name, e-mail address and "Yes I have 30 Fr|Miles stamps" will do. 7) Accessibility: The Great Hall is up a flight of stairs, and there is no elevator. We are not happy about that, but it is an old building, and it was the best venue for many other reasons. We do expect that at least a couple of people will have accessibility issues with the stairs, and we are committed to overcoming them. If you are coming to Frucon, and cannot negotiate stairs on your own, please write the committee at frucon@egroups.com so that we can arrange assistance for you. 8) Questions: For answers to con-related questions, please visit the Frucon website at http://frucon.tripod.com. If you don't find your answer there, feel free to email the committee at frucon@egroups.com. We'll see you in Toronto! A.J.
