You probably know the routine by now, but if you don't, here's a few examples on how to vote and an explanation. Below are the eight remaining pairs of songs in a single-elimination tournament (Song War). You are to choose one song in each pair, although you can opt out of a pair by voting for both or not voting at all! You may add comments to either song, or the pairing in general. Do that, and vote, as follows: 1. Voting method 1: The Xs! Feel free to use one X, three Xs, or--as the esteemed AdamH did, a heck of a lot of Xs. This method's example includes the "postscript" method of commenting, where you slap in your comment after the pairing. This method works well for longer comments, or comments on the pairing as a whole. XXXCienfuegos She Bangs (Don't get me wrong, I don't care about Ricky Martin being Gay, but that song just sucks. Besides, Ibrahim Ferrer is the shizit.) 2. Voting method 2: The eliminator. In this method, you simply delete the song you don't want. It would just read: Cienfuegos (Dear me! What a tough choice) Here i'm utilizing the "song-by-song" method of commenting, where you just kinda throw in a comment about how much a song means to you, or something brief like that. - --------------------------------------------- Without further ado, here's the pairings! Note: since two nothing about the pairings has been changed. I'm not pitting songs up against each other. It would have been far too difficult to ensure that no Dave or Mike, etc. song would not be paired up against too many songs performed primarily by that same person. I apologize for any tough decisions, but--it's only gonna get harder. Tough choice: this seemed to be the common thread! a. Bah: The Drinking Song XX Horseshoes (what an evil, evil pairing... :)) King of Spain--this one's hard only because I'm burnt out on BOTH of them! XXXLazy boy Video Disco Bargainville Get in the Car XXXXXXXXXXXX ooooh this was tough. XSpiderman Bittersweet (Trying to kill me with that last one, aintcha?) Lazlo's Career XGulf War Song (GRR! That one was evil...) XXXThe Drinking Song --this is hard. Horseshoes XXXNuits de Reve Darlington Darling --although, this is tough... Darlington is one of my favorites, too. You Will Go to the Moon x My baby loves a bunch of authors (Quite possibly the hardest decision. I like the content of Authors more than Moon, although antics-wise, Moon wins. Overall, I'd rather hear Authors in concert) Jockey Full of Bourbon XIndependence Day (Yet ANOTHER evil one... I hate you. ;oP) King of Spain Lazy Boy (too... hard... brain... hurts... waaaahhh!!!) XXPisco Bandito Boo Time (ok, trying to decide these two actually created an "I don't want to choose" dance. I'm not joking.) Ugh! These last two are *tough*! I simply can't choose between Michi and MPG! And, ask me tomorrow, and I might choose MBLABOA over Moon! Fly xxGreen Eggs&Ham (this is just mean! this one wins by the barest of margins, and I hope the voting is tied.) Earthquakes (How could you pit the two of the three best Dave songs against each other?? Unfair!!!) [note: technically, i didn't. i only chose the first round pairings.] b. This is how we chose Misplaced XXLee (we had to listen to the CD and argue over who sounded sadder. I guess Dave has more convincing heartbreak...) Minnie the Moocher xxJohnny Saucep'n (changed this vote twice. grrr.) xxFell in Love Earthquakes (you have to understand, this choice caused physical violence in my house. but I won.) x Minnie the Moocher (Chelsea's a lesbian hooker. Plus, I still can't sing Johnny) Johnny Saucep'n Fell in Love x Earthquakes (Scary pairing. Two completely different styles, but I'd have to say that I'd actually get excited to hear Earthquakes) 2. On the other hand... xxNuits de Reve Darlington Darling (yawn. too easy. ) X Spiderman Bittersweet (too depressing to win another round) x Nuits de Rjve (sorry, Darling, but no contest here) Darlington Darling 3. Not what you were thinking! Love Set Fire xxBJ Don't Cry (this was easy, and is only notable because we were doing this in a group and when we got here all of us yelled 'bj!' which led to some confusion among my friends who didn't know what we were doing.) 4. Why we chose X... You Will Go to the Moon xxMy Baby Loves a Bunch of Authors (love moon, but... but 'my crucifixion', y'know?) Video Disco Bargainville (the album of this version sux th' big cookie) X Get in the Car x Spiderman (Eight legs good! Two legs bad!) Bittersweet Lazlo's Career x Gulf War Song (off-mic - brings tears to my eyes) x Video Disco Bargainville (Sometimes, I just want to dance.) Get in the Car River Valley x Sahara (Extended version - amazing) Jockey Full of Bourbon x Independence Day (Gotta give props to the Murrman) Fly x Green Eggs & Ham (I experienced Fly, so I would like it to go away) x Love Set Fire (BJ's a little overplayed. LSF is a great song that deserves credit) B.J. Don't Cry xxMichigan Militia My Poor Generation (this is weird, 'cause I don't even like Michy that much.) 5. Pardon? The Drinking Song X Horseshoes (I'm a sucker for Wood) 6. The only comments received re: fill-in you did this 'cause bargainville's been such a strong contender, didn't you. dammit. are we being punished for something? I have it narrowed down to six... ::flipping coin:: (While MBLABOA was the song that introduced me to Fruvous, KOS is the song that can ALWAYS get my feet taping and make me want to dance around the office). River Valley (finally, some justice for having to vote it out against Sahara) The Drinking Song. (That is on Bargainville, right? I don't actually own it (cringe), it's my boyfriend's.) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 Jan 2001 05:14:04 GMT From: presam0@wfu.NOSPAM.edu (Adam 'Plastic Cup' Prestin) Subject: MFSW: Votes due 10:00 PM EST, Jan. 16th I always forget that part. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 Jan 2001 08:32:13 -0500 (EST) From: owner-ammf@fruvous.com Subject: [none] ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 Jan 2001 15:44:35 GMT From: CintiBud Subject: Re: MFSW: Round 4 Ballot/Pairings Adam, My email vote keeps bouncing. It helped very much! Ok AJ, and everyone else, Here's what I know so far (very little). There is no person looking after what Jude used to. I spoke with someone, and they said that Jack wasn't sure yet if videotaping would be allowed. I was told to write him an e-mail asking and that he would reply to it when he found out. So next I called the opera house. It IS general admission (someone asked that earlier I think) and the guy there said that there is very limited seating, mainly standing room. He also said that video taping is not allowed. So I asked if it would be allowed if I had permission from the band. He said that would be ok then, but I would need something in writing to show the person at the door. He said that a copy of the email would be good enough. So, now I just have to hope that Jack replies to me. And that the guys will be ok with videotaping.
