Aggressive "skimming" marketing strategy or respect for fans? It was simply a collection of their music videos to date, not any sort of continuous video. Until I saw the collection at FruCon I, I had seen KoS and Stuck in the 90s so many times on Much Music it would make your head hurt, seen parts of Get in the Car... and that's it. Every single one of the videos is in the Much Music or MuchMore Music library and it's not Früvous' fault that Much became unenthusiastic about playing them. (Ok except for Down from Above. That's just disturbing) MuchMore Music has put both IWHO and Sad Girl into light/medium rotation. If you ask around there are Früheads who got the collection (it was the 15-show prize I think. A lot of people got it) and Canadian Früheads who have the last two on tape. Randy ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 09 Aug 2000 20:00:36 -0400 From: Paul Mischler Subject: Re: Recording industry suit Actually, this isn't the first lawsuit in this matter. This lawsuit is brought about by a coalition of 28 states Attorney Generals in response to a practice that prevents stores from selling CD's at a lower-than-agreed about price. This lawsuit falls on the heels of a no-fault settlement in federal court over the same issue. The Big Five (Time Warner's Warner Brother's Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, Segram Co's. Universal music group, BMG, and EMI Group) are being sued over a practice called "Minimum Advertised Pricing". "Minimum Advertsied Pricing" is a practice which was _designed_ to help out smaller music stores. It works something like this: A store cannot advertise a particular CD at a price lower than X dollars, or the store faces losing it's advertising subsidy from the record companies. This was done so that huge stores could not set up "Loss Leaders", or CD's priced lower than cost to attract customers into the store who can then purchase other items like CD players, or other electronics equipment. Smaller stores, not having other products to sell, would not be able to compete in this kind of a market. The federal agreement (signed in may), the big five agreed to stop the MAP policy for 7 years. The FTC had been seeking $480 Million in damages. Of course, as you probably are all aware, the termination of the MAP policy has not decreased CD prices at all. In fact, they have risen since May. Just thought you might like to be aware of some of the crap that goes on behind the scenes in the music industry. - -Paul Mischler Remove the obvious portions in my e-mail address to reply.
