Hmmm.. I think you're missing my point which is that no matter how tiny or insignificant you think that point was in the context of the post (and i have read her original post and almost every post since, cause I don't really care about my training I'm sad to say) SOMEONE is going to find it significant. It really matters little how you word your messages carefully or not, someone is going to misinterpret your words. My point is that, yes, in the overall context of the post, it may be insignificant, esp. if you're taking the post as as a whole. Take for example the republican national convention: I am going to bring this up because I have been bombarded with this crap (NPR tv, etc for the last week). This whole inclusion theme is all feel good and whatever, but it would be wrong of me not to see the idiots from texas praying and waving the "You have a way out" sign when the openly homosexual speaker talked (about trade). Sure its insignificant in the whole scheme of things. But it is significant to me (like they're non-inclusive, intollerant, biggots, but I'm sure not all republicans are like that.. I hope). Where was my point? I dunno. I guess my point is, if you're going to put it down for the world to see, you better be able to back it up, insignificant as it may well be (and that rhymed.. *shiver*). >also, i agree that the thread ended up not being about gella or >what she had actually said, but much has been attributed to her >that she never said, including anything about the band being >her friends or her feeling slighted in any way. i don't know >why i'm bothering, since she said this quite eloquently herself >(and with much more detail) in her last post, but since >this is the first time someone has actually responded to >something i've said, i feel that i must clarify. >misunderstandings do happen, and probably cannot be helped, but >i don't see why people shouldn't try to clarify in that event. >i think gella has, actually, gotten over it for the most part, >and yet the debate continues... the debate continues because it is a good debate. People do call the band their "friends", etc etc.. whether or not this is something that should be done is worthy of debate. Misunderstandings happen because of the inherant lack of expression in the medium (writing) and the lack of decent fonts. If I could only insert some flash in here, man.. anyways. But reguardless, its unfortunate that the attributes of this debate have been associated with Gella whether they be right on or wrong. I for one, have assumed nothing about gella or her attachment to the band. Like I said, it really doesn't matter to me. People are going to think what they think (i.e. many people don't like me.. and most of the time it isn't really for a good reason.. if you need a reason, just email me I'm sure I can come up with something). >on this we agree. i just wish it could have happened without >hurting gella at all. she has one of the most true and sincere >hearts i've ever known. I have read most of the posts and I haven't seen a real personal attack. I guess maybe I'm not reading close enough... but most people have kept this pretty civil. I don't want to sound harsh, but if this has really bothered Gella then she might have to get some thicker skin because as far as flame wars go, this has been extremely nice (and trust me, I've seen some really bad flame wars - python vs. perl, emacs vs vi, richard vs chad, etc). >i don't know... i'm not trying to fight with you, bill. i >think you're a great guy, and i certainly have no desire for >bad feeling between us. i, too, am just trying to put things >in perspective. we're not fighting, we're debating. there is a difference (although at times the lines gray abit, ask my best friend who happens to be a big conservative.. *ugh* - its amazing how quickly a 2 hour drive can pass when you're "talking" about welfare and afirmative action :-)). as far as being a great guy, thanks.. i have my moments, I think you're pretty spiffy too (might have to nip this in the bud otherwise we're going to have a love-in). Which, I assure you, is something inimitable, especially to one who feels the need for a hug. But see, that proves she's not obsessional about the affections of acquaintances. And when a big band, say ::shudder:: N sync decides to give a lucky winner backstage passes and the chance to hang out after the concert or something it increases the interest in the particular concert. Some girl probably was happy that she got free tickets -- after the band heard she spent $1000 on some auction for supposedly a plate of Justin's left over French toast. But just for the fact that there are *so* many more fans for a known band/actor etc. that it would be pretty hard on anyone to try to do fan meeting after a show. Just because of tiredness, hunger, and whatnot. Still, there are plenty of other times *besides* after a show if it's that much of a problem. My dad likes to tell me stories about how John Wayne always signed autographs and didn't leave until every last person had their autograph or whatever, no matter how many people were in line. Interesting. But I never met John Wayne, so I guess I'll have to take his word for it.
