That is SO true ... I have found that as Dana grows up (too fast, of course) she is finding the absolute best "young woman" role models from her FruShows ... instead of Britney or whatever, her idols include Loren, Mindy, Anna and Martina Sorberra :) :) :) And the fact that the first three on the list took the time and patience to let Dana "hang" with them at Birchmere (we still get "yeahdog" as her favorite expression) is something for which I'll be eternally grateful. And while I'm not a big fan of Martina's music, since D wants to be a drummer, I like her having a very cool icon to aspire to be (maybe her big dream will be to take the stage as an opener for Fruvous and have Jian produce HER record ... at 10 she already writes songs and is, if I say so myself,a hell of a drummer). I think the Fruworld is the perfect place to raise a daughter. She's learning the right things and the best music and making some great friends. I wish she could find a kid-friend who was also into the music but maybe next show??? Taxi - hmmm, not sure if any exist in Syracuse. (actually they do but there are better things) Bus - Centro is the city bus line and schedules are available at the train station. Train - OnTrack is similar to a trolley and runs from Carousel Mall to Armory Sq. and SU and so on. The 'Train Station' you would arrive at is actually the 'Regional Transportation Center', aka train and bus station with taxi and Centro bus service. It is located across the street mall where the OnTrack station is. The OnTrack train runs only until just after 6 pm though. later, tom. My wallet is lighter than it was last Thursday. And I'm still doing laundry and trying to catch up on sleep. But I can think of no better way to spend a weekend than going to the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival. I really enjoyed seeing them interact with other musicians on the workshop stage, especially with the Nields. Some great moments: During the Woody Guthrie workshop, Fruvous did a sequel to "Killer Tents" to the tune of Guthrie's "Talking Dust Bowl Blues" (for anyone who likes Ramblin' Jack Elliott, that's "Back in 1927, I had a li'l farm and I called it heaven"). Also during the Guthrie workshop, the lads did a Canadian-specific chorus of "This Land is Your Land." (Did anybody get the words? I was not quick enough.) Camp Fruvous was mentioned from the stage during the Saturday night set--all for swarming the Nields camp. During Boo Time, I was torn between watching the sign language interpreter and watching Mike, who was all over the stage. During the "Not the Beatles!" section of Green Eggs and Ham, there was a little infix from the Sting song "Fields of Barley." Quoth Murray: "And Sting. Sting's a big Beatles fan." - -------- Add to all this Fruvous stuff the fact that I got to hear two of my three favorite Dar Williams songs and that Janis Ian is just bone-crunchingly amazing live, and you have one very happy camper. - -Rachel ________________________________________________________________ YOU'RE PAYING TOO MUCH FOR THE INTERNET!
