I wrote up a list of what to bring, that turned out somewhat longer than I expected when I started the reply :) After writing it up and posting to nields-nook, I got a lot of feedback, posted to some other lists, repeated the following year... This year, I've made it into a web page: http://cos.polyamory.org/frfflist.html This message is being posted to: nields nook, alt.music.moxy-fruvous, edheads, dar list, suspects [I am subscribed to all of the above except dar list, but if you have feedback please email me directly because I may miss list postings.] -- Cos (Ofer Inbar) -- cos@aaaaa.org cos@polyamory.org -- WBRS Waltham 100.1 FM -- info@wbrs.org http://www.wbrs.org/ "Long live folk music, and this doomed festival!" -- moxy fruvous ------------------------------ Date: 6 Jul 2000 09:06:13 GMT From: aprestin@ccs.neu.garbage.edu Subject: Re: OT kinda random: 4th of July & stuff Adam Prestin wrote: : albeit amateur, fireworks show. This summer, I'm working at the Jewish Community Center's summer camp. Four other girls and I are in charge of a group of 25 five-year-old girls. (Yes, I shudder when I think about it, too.) Anyway, I was getting ready to go home this afternoon when I happened to catch a glimpse of this guy (a parent, I'm guessing) who looked almost exactly like Jian. All he needed was longer hair and some yellow sunglasses. It was so scary I couldn't get over it. And the poor guy must have thought I was a stalker or something, because I kept staring at him to make sure I wasn't seeing things. I'm just disappointed that it wasn't really him, or any of the lads, for that matter. How weird would that have been? Last year I spent July 4th on my own on the roof of the apt building I lived in in Brooklyn to watch the firework displays- it wasn't a very tall building but I could see displays from all over Brooklyn, Manhatten & NJ/ Staten Island too. It was an incredible show that lasted many hours & I really loved it. It brought back memories of Guy Fawkes Nights from when I was a kid : our fireworks were nowhere near as spectacular back then, but they had the same community feel- families would club together & organize a big party, fireworks in the back gardens, kids out for weeks beforehand with the 'guy' (basically a homemade scarecrow) begging for loose change to be put towards more fireworks (a wierd tradition that I'll explain if anyone's interested), baking potatoes in the fires, holding sparklers, dressed up warmly with scarves, hats & gloves, etc. (It takes place in the autumn). I don't know how it's celebrated these days, but I'm betting there's tighter control on the fireworks here too. I loved the community feel of it all, the sense of togetherness. July 4th 2000- what did I do? Looked out of the window at the pouring rain falling over the sea- just another typical day of English weather- and longed for the summer sun and fireworks! (yes there is a point!) i am going to have a pool party on tuesday august 29th, which conveniently is the day *before* the first milestones show. the invitation is open to basically all früheads. we've got a nice big pool so don't worry, we can handle everybody :D so generally it'll be like the famed house party save for i cannot promise you Moxy Früvous in the flesh. but who needs them anyways? ;) if anyone is interested (please? i wanna have a fun party!) e-mail me privately at maggie_fru@hotmail.com and i'll hook ya up with more specifics, which translates to directions to my house. it's BYOB(everages) and anyone who is willing to donate other kinds of refreshments is very welcome. so again, please e-mail me at maggie_fru@hotmail.com if you're interested. thank you very much! [1] i'm excited! this is my first multiple show string! :D ~Maggie~ "Fr˙fffffc - ----------------------------------------------------------- Got questions? Get answers over the phone at Keen.com.
