I'll throw my opinion in on this one because it has changed a lot over the past few months. When I first saw Martina in Toronto in February I barely even noticed she was there. What little actually caught my attention sounded to me an awful lot like things I'd heard before. Mostly though, she was just background noise to everything else that was going on. This past week in Boston and Vermont there were still a lot of things going on and I was distracted, but despite that I couldn't miss Martina. She's learned grab the audience's attention and command it a bit more. Although the set was similar on all three nights I saw her this week, every night she captivated me even more. If she keeps growing as an artist and fine-tuning her performance I think she could really go places. I can't wait for the new album to come out. From everything I've heard it should be fabulous. Besides, I have a feeling "I, Claudia" is going to be stuck in my head until I hear it again... /l ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 11 Jun 2000 22:53:22 GMT From: Robin Kent Subject: Re: [jflick@snet.net: Falcon Ridge Showcase Announcement] Yay, thanks for saying that Gella. I certainly think its perfectly valid for other people not to like her and to say so but since the majority which people say like her haven't been posting anything about that, I'm glad that you did because I very much agree with you. I think she's a really talented guitar and piano player with a great voice (good range and flexibility) and that her lyrics are excellent. I do agree that she had things to work on including clearer pronunciation so that it is easier to understand what she is saying but I think that she has a lot of potential. - -Robin ------------------------------ Date: 11 Jun 2000 23:34:29 GMT From: eagan1978@cs.com (Eagan1978) Subject: Re: OT-This is one happy Devils fan!! <> Yeah, I'm just happy that the evil, evil Stars lost, although I would have thought it only justice for them to lose on a no gaol. At some point, Mike mentioned his concern since the night before while doing the intro to Greatest Man in America, Dave started to talk about the hidden meaning to their "entering America." it was so funny...and dave did go to some extremes considering the "young age" of the crowd on Wednesday night. ~amy Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 12 Jun 2000 02:59:51 GMT From: Dead@thwip.polyamory.org, from@thwip.polyamory.org, the@thwip.polyamory.org, Neck@thwip.polyamory.org, Up@home.com (DeadHead) Subject: 6/9/2000 - Casual Friday - Winooski Oh my! Hey, everyone... I just wanted to mention this cause I'm realizing that some of the venues don't get the attention they deserve in the hard work that all the employess put into putting on shows... As I was reading everyone else's reviews of the past week in Cambridge, I was reminded of an incident that did happen on Wednesday night. This one guy was really trashed after the show and he was going around and hitting on all the females. When I walked up to my group of peeps, he was there and everyone seemed sketched out. This slimeball attempted to kiss my hand but couldn't because he was that drunk. Anna pulled me away real fast and we all tried to get away from him, but he continued to follow. I got tired of this nasty guy and what he was doing to everyone. It's understandable that you want to drink and ya, we were all drop dead gorgeous, but it's another thing to spread slime all over us. I went and talked with one of the bouncers and asked if they could remove him. And, he did with great amounts of applause and cheers from all of us. Although this was the bouncer's job and what he gets paid to do, he definitely made the night better for all of us. Actually, all of the bouncers there were pretty cool. They danced with us prior to the show; let us hang around until way after closing time just so we could have a few extra minutes with Dave, Mike, Jian, and Murray; and they didn't even confiscate our cameras (there was a no camera rule for HoB) but simply asked that we no longer take any pictures. In a town where attitude precedes personalities, these guys really made a great impression on my group at least. I think that if Fruvous ever gets a chance to play at House of Blues again, they definitely should. The staff there is awesome, food is great, and general atmosphere is wonderful (although the drinks are overpriced and it was deftly hot).
