All of you who got to pick your schools, thank your parents for staying out of your business. All of you who had a choice, consider yourself fortunate. I had the choice of a private school in town (Indianapolis) or a public school in Indiana. I chose the lesser of the two evils and stuck around in town because it's a better school. But I didn't have a choice, external factors that I had no control over keep me where I am at, but always choose the best school for what you want to study. If you want to, you can find things to do to keep yourself entertained, like parties and shit so don't let stupid crap like that influence your decision. For instance, a friend of mine in Chicago in the IB Program informs me that "ToK" class is simply called "Theory". At my school, IB kids are referred to as "ibs" sometimes, and other times simply "losers". We have fun with the acronym though, for instance, "the I'm Better Program" and "IB, therefore I BS". > Anyhoo, 115 grand (and real American dollars, too) sounds pretty good, just > how many places >did you apply? Five. I got into four (got rejected from Carnegie Mellon). RPI offered $8000/year, Rochester and Lehigh $10000/year each. Maryland is offering a one-time $1500 award. I'm a National Merit Scholar, so I'm getting $500/year from that no matter where I go (although they can give me more if they determine that I need it).
