[3] so we go to take pictures and Melissa and i squeeze in between them and i was next to Jian. because of the sneakers i was wearing i was an inch or two taller than him and this made me very self-conscious. so i was bending me knees so i would look shorter. *not* a good idea... i was somewhat dehydrated and had been in the hot sun waaaaay too long... i fell right over on my ass. they all went silent. they were so sweet, they didn't laugh at me or anything [4]! however, i laughed at myself a *lot*. after i took my face out of my hands, Jian pulled me up, put his arm around me and said something like "now you stay right here" *sigh* figures that i make myself seem like incapable of normal everyday activities like STANDING STILL 1 - see my quote 2 - i liked punk then, i still like punk now. on a side note, later in that show they went into the first verse of "Basket Case" -- we felt special 3 - i apologize for making this post so damn long 4 - i have a vague recollection of hearing lots of laughter as we walked away... hmm... oh well, it's all good :D ~Maggie~ - -- "I think it's like a different level in there... kinda trippy." ~ Vicky R. You skipped "Get a Message to You" (or whatever it's called) after Half as Much, after Pisco was Independence Day. I thought the show was great, lots of energy on stage and in the audience, and lots of short improv-type snatches of songs like "Moxy Fruvous in the Game of Life" (I think, take off on an R.E.M. song), a welcome to Madison which included reminiscence of past two visits, one to a very small crowd and one in a shitty sports bar, which prompted the audience to cheer as if they had all been to both events, which Jian called their bluff on, saying they couldn't all have been there, there were only about 40 people at their first show a few years ago. Toward the end, Jian thanked everyone for coming to the show especially the "fruvirgins" and went into a little tongue in cheek about hoping their first show was a good one, maybe a bit confusing, possible hurt a bit at first, etc. ) For those of you who were there, I have a question: was it just me or did the encores seem awfully rushed, possibly due to a need to wrap up the show by 11:00 which they did on the dot? Maybe my attention wandered, but it seemed that they jumped into Green Eggs... in about the 1/3 point, no intro. and at about the tempo of J. Saucepan. And NO DRINKING SONG TO FINISH! Also, I find the placement of I Will Hold On in the encores rather disconcerting, especially as the last one. My guests, in contrast, thought it wound the show down nicely and was a mellow place to end.
