She got a job with Blue Rodeo. Definitely a move up for her. Last we heard, she was still doing fruvous stuff on the side, but I am not sure how long that can reasonably continue. Jack Ross (Fruvous' manager) has a new assistant named Jill Primeau but I don't think she is taking over all of Jude's former duties. Who will do the rest of those duties remains to be seen. Tonight my school's English nerd club (not its real name) had our annual Lovers in Literature night, where everybody brings and shares readings or music related to love in some way. So obviously, MBLABOA was a perfect choice, and while I toyed briefly with the idea of performing it myself, I ended up just playing the track off Bargainville. I think this was the first time I've played Fruvous for people and gotten a unanimously positive response! Everybody laughed when they were supposed to! One girl's boyfriend said, "Wow, I never thought I'd hear Robertson Davies and Margaret Atwood mentioned in the same song," and my friend Lauri converted ("No, I really think they're cool now! They're like [say it with me here] Barenaked Ladies, but funnier. And cooler."). When it was over, my friend Reyna, who's a fellow crossover English/music nerd, said, "Now you know the source of the insanity in the music department." Hee hee! Sometimes. Then my friend Katie punches Jim Wade and I'm happy again. Anyway, can I just say something really quick in reference to all the "boy bands"? I know, I know, rant rant rant.... It's probably been done before. But I was watching the Grammys[1] and I just noticed the abundance of performers who have no musical talent. Okay, they can sing. But you can probably teach a parrot to sing if you really wanted it to. Actually, you can. Ever seen the parrot that can sing the theme to the Andy Griffith show? Pure genius, I tell you. Anyway, what I'm saying is that after seeing Elton John up there performing I was just blown away. I forgot how much MUSIC... was! I was not alive in the 1970s, but dang, I wish I was. They played music. Not just sung and danced and bee-bopped. Whee! Look at me! I'm Britney Spears! ::giggles like a Catholic schoolgirl:: You know, I think people who like Moxy Früvous appreciate music. Because, behind all the jokes and banter and funny/wholesome goodness (just like a cereal!), isn't it all about the music? One of my favorite songs, Down From Above, is just a great example of that. The guitar in there is just beautiful. And, as someone mentioned earlier, everything's just a little bit out of tune, just a little bit not right. But Früvous, to me, is like the Parthenon in Greece. Everything's just so imperfect, it's perfect. That's what music is. None of this bee-bop stuff. I'm glad I found Früvous. They're music. Like the 1970s. It saved me from the clutches of the "BSB" and "98°". But, getting back to your conversion of youth leaders, I say congrats! I've been trying to convert Alice, but she's been slacking. Julie likes them though! My best conversion story has to be when I showed my friend Matt just a few quotes of theirs. Quotes, mind you. From WTGM. Anyway, I showed him these quotes, and he loved them. It wasn't for another month when he downloaded an MP3 of GE&H that he actually HEARD them. But he loved them none the less. My job here.... is done. --Rai-Marie --There's gonna be two shows during Spring Break week? Ooh. Convinient! [1] First footnote of my first rant! WHEE! Anyway, I didn't mean to watch the Grammies. I just was bored.... and I saw Britney Spears lipsynch really bad. That improved things. And I saw Santana play. He's good. He's music. He doesn't even sing, that's how musical he is.
