There's a big old picture of Moxy on the page. In fact it's the only picture featured in the "picks" section. Ok it doesn't hurt that my wife Michelle is a graphic designer there & has some influence in the decision - but hey - very cool all the same. Will be interested to see if the other weekly free press, The Onion chooses them as well. Show starts at 7:30 with fellow Canadiene, Sarah Slean as opener. $13.00 advance, $15 at the door. ALL AGES. Easy trip from.... Milwaukee: 90 minutes Chicago: 2 ~ 2 1/2 hours Minneapolis: 5 hours Green Bay: 3 hours Iowa City: 4 hours Peoria: 3 hours Bloomington/Normal: 3 hours Champaign: 4 hours Ann Arbor: 6 - 7 hours And only 12 hours from Toronto Cheap lodging - Madison has an International Youth Hostel which I believe is $17.00 a night. Nearby stuff before the show starts: Right next door: Pasqual's - good veg & non-veg mexican Across the street: Monty's Blue Plate - a retro dinner specializing in veg food. Great tempeh BLT Just down Williamson street (1 mile west): Willy Street Food co-op Jamerica Jamaican food & grocery Mother Fools Coffee House A veg. laotion restaurant (can't remember the name) Bahn Thai restaurant Ground Zero Coffee House Mad City Music State Street - a pedestrian street connecting the UW campus to the Capital square. Very easy to find if you're new to Madison. About 3 miles from the Barrymore. The streets about a mile long & is completly lined with book stores, record shops, cafes, ethnic restaurants, bars & the like. You can park on the street, but any downtown Madison parking garage is $1.00 for the day. Once you get to the campus from State street head to the right along the lakefront until you get to the Student Union (about a block from state street). Inside the Union you can eat Babcock Hall Ice Cream which is made by the UW dairy dept & is rumoured to have the highest fat content of any commercial ice cream in America. Yes it's damn good. So you want to stretch yer legs before the show? a block away from the Barrymore is the Madison bike/walk trail which circles all of Lake Monona & is 12 miles in a loop. Anywho - if anyone needs directions to the show or other assistance. Let me know. Looking forward to a great show. Would someome share their opinion? not off key, but somewhat dissonant. they seem to like using the chorus effect on their amp, and that shows up most noticeably in Down from Above, Pisco Bandito, Downsizing, Too Careful, and Nuits de Reve. (at least in the live versions - the recordings are a little cleaner sounding) Some examples of songs where the guitar sound is clean, but still slightly detuned are On Her Doorstep, Half as Much, Get in the Car, and River Valley. but I think it sounds better - if they weren't detuned like that, everything would sound very sterile and boring. - -- lawrence solomon * http://www.fruhead.com/users/zaph * zaph@fruhead.com "You knew it was true, when I held you, there were no secrets.
