To clarify BJ's connection with fish: some people (whether this is true or not, I don't know) have hypothesized that "BJ Don't Cry" is about baby Jesus. Jesus could be fish-boy (I really don't mean any disrespect, here) because of his being able to feed lots of people with one fish. And also because of the fish symbol that early Christians used to identify themselves with to each other when Christianity was a persecuted, underground religion, because the Greek word for "fish" is similar to the Greek word for "Jesus" (or something like that). While I don't usually care for these mostest/leastest favouritest song thingies, I must say I have to second your call on When She Talks. When I got Thornhill, I liked/loved every other song on the album, but WST made my eyes glaze over in seconds. Now that you mention it, it does have a bit of an N'Sync feel to it, but the song's tone and overproduction reminded me of Phil Collins and some other "Lite FM" artists too drab to mention. I do like that little ascending bass line at the end of the chorus, but it's not worth the rest of the song. The lyrics are O.K., but the music is drowsy and uninspired in my opinion. The request to not tape some shows for a bit wasn't a huge deal. From what I understand, the band wanted to relax a bit and play some "fun shows" without staring into mic stands or thinking or worrying about permancence. It was also so the tapers themselves could relax a bit and enjoy a show without worrying about gear, seating, and the talking people next to them. - Chad ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 29 Nov 1999 17:27:02 GMT From: jcohen08@tufts.edu (Jake Cohen) Subject: Re: Amherst Does anyone have an extra ticket for the show at Amherst College this Friday? It launched out into talking about Toledo naming things (and a semi-recap of the style of banter was done at the November '98 Case-Western show). At that show, "Sports" was thrown into Darlington Darling and it just stuck. That could be arcane lore, or it could be fact, but that's the oral tradition I've heard somewhere or another.
