The majority of the Denver lyrics were sports-related and the crowd was enjoying itself but not being too vocal about it. When he got around to mentioning Larry Walker in the callback section, it got *no* response -- "Aww, c'mon! Scream for that name, you fuckers!" We also got the lesbian hooker verse, and the bowl of nose candy verse. After the song was over, Jian said "Lyrics 30 minutes before the show -- except one of them." Well, how about two? :-) > Kids > **This is the weirdest Kids Song I've ever been near. In the first > place, when they got to "Should Quebec Separate?!" NOBODY said anything! > I was so shocked, I didn't say anything either... all the sound was sucked > out of my body. :) They guys were taken aback, I think, and Jian retorts > with "Duh, what's Quebec?" [because we are all stupid americans anyway, > y'know] Actually, I think he said "Like dude, what's Quebec?" in (intentional or not) reference to the previous night's "I didn't realize until I came here that my name was 'dude'!" banter :-) > Then they get to Gaby's part. Jian's going along fine, when > suddenly he can't finish the line "My mother makes a spicy bowl of chili > [or soup]" He gets as far as "My mother makes a sp----" and starts to crack > up. I don't know why. They had to repeat it 4 times, and Bridget wasn't > sure he was going to make it. But, he overcame, and the tune carried on. The problem was that he sang "I met premiere Bob Ray, and he wasn't Pinochet" with a hard-T, the "new" pronunciation -- and then caught himself trying to rhyme it. So it became "And my mother makes a crzfnchy bplwa... whoops!" Dave responded, over the second guitar attempt, "And my mother makes a dinka dinka dink!", and Jian added "...of poopy. Chili! Three rhymes!" Then Jian reached into the audience and grabbed someone's bat-looking hair-thing and played with that through the rest of the song... It was easily the funniest Kids Song I've ever seen, and it'll be tough to top it :-) > Psycho > **I was disappointed that whoever was being the light guy wasn't > playing along with Jian's "Oh, it's so bright" pantomime. The lights > stayed up. Well, that's because (sigh) the lights guy was at the bar. I was standing right in front of the soundboard & lightboard, and when I turned around at the beginning of Psycho, there was nobody at the lights (and there was a rack between Cal and the lights). I nearly went back and turned 'em down myself, but I figured that'd be a great way to get tossed if they didn't appreciate it :-) Ah well. Okay. Off to work. -Joe ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 02 Nov 1999 13:55:19 GMT From: "Daancing Queen" Subject: Busking (was Re: [FAQ] Frequently Asked Questions list (3/4)) Neil posed the question (why didn't you ask Dave's head this?) >Lou Reed singing with them... nor a lot of other stuff. What I really >wanted to look up was the "accepted" definition of busker/busking, but >maybe I'll just use a dictionary. or read somebody's e-mail to me. Hee hee - we once spent an hour and a half arguing over this very thing in one of my geography seminars - 4 years of university to argue over what is a busker! And guess what? Since that was a year ago, my mind has since melted and I can't even tell you the outcome of the arguement. But basically we were discussing the differences (if there are any) between a busker and a panhandler, and why we (in general, as a society) are more willing to give money to someone who's trying to entertain us than someone who's doing nothing, and discussing things like busker festivals, etc. For Neil, who's still looking for an answer to his question, *my* defination of busking would be street performance (singing, playing music, acting, painting, magic, etc), with the obligatory hat on the sidewalk to collect money. :) Many cities (at least here in Ontario) have busker festivals during a weekend in the summer, where a street or a park is taken over by buskers, and people come watch them perform - the level of busker ranges from local kids to people who've come from all over the country to be in the festival. And in Toronto, there is a weekend where people compete to get a liscence that allows them to perform in the subway stations. :) Is that more than you ever wanted to know? Probably longer than the dictionary gives you! :) Sara ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 02 Nov 1999 14:41:02 GMT From: "Jimmy Peat" Subject: unsubscribe ________________________________________________________________ Get FREE voicemail, fax and email at http://voicemail.excite.com Talk online at http://voicechat.excite.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 02 Nov 1999 14:40:51 GMT From: "Jimmy Peat" Subject: Re: unsubscribe ________________________________________________________________ Get FREE voicemail, fax and email at http://voicemail.excite.com Talk online at http://voicechat.excite.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 02 Nov 1999 15:44:41 GMT From: "Kathleen Cain" Subject: Fw: Busking (was Re: [FAQ] Frequently Asked Questions list (3/4)) > >Neil posed the question (why didn't you ask Dave's head this?) > >>Lou Reed singing with them... nor a lot of other stuff. So basically, a busker is a person who entertains without charging a fee, but depends on people giving them what they feel the performance is worth. I perform at the Minnesota Renaissance festival every year and I guess that what I do could be called busking. People pay us according to how much they were entertained. Hmmmmmm. There's a roof overhead (or cone on your head) ...Mike yells, "Nat Gertler!" Now I know who he was referring to! I'm sure when I had heard that tape before, I just said "huh?" when I heard that line.
